Today we’d like to introduce you to Aatmica Ojha.
Hi Aatmica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for art has been since childhood! I used to doodle on the walls of my home at age 2.
Make greeting cards for my friends at age 4. When I was in class 5, we had a ‘T-shirt Painting’ competition. We were given plain white T-shirts and we had to paint on them. The time given was 30 minutes. I still remember when my name was announced, and I was given the first prize!
Colors make me happy!
I am fortunate that I could convert my joy into my profession! I donate 50% of my earnings to breast cancer foundations, and that has deepened my love for art! At the end of the day, the highest purpose of life is to serve one another!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The only obstacle that I have is the unavailability of an art studio. It’s difficult to create splash color paintings at home. One is always concerned about color reaching the walls!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an interdisciplinary artist. My artworks are professional acrylic, mixed media, and digital NFTs.
I serve humanity with the help of the following organizations:
Breast Cancer Foundation of Dallas – USA.
Knights of The Religious Academy- Charitable Organization – USA.
International Arts Act – Global Breast Cancer Awareness Campaigns to raise funds through art – India.
Cancer Patients Aid Association (India).
While painting, I mainly have two approaches: spontaneous and planned.
Spontaneous Approach: Whenever I feel sad, I take a canvas, splash colors, and start painting! I do the same when I am overjoyed and when I want to thank God for something. The resultant work is energetic! I call it statement art! The artworks produced are abstracts. The technique used is acrylic.
Planned Approach: In between daily chores, I get ideas that I want to try out. For example, if I use a napkin, I start imagining an artwork with it! I have used threads, lumps of yarn, badminton net, metal pins, etc. to create 3D pieces. The next idea is printed fabric patches! The artworks produced are abstracts, landscapes, seascapes, etc. The technique used is mixed media.
I also create digital art.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Well, I would say consistency! If we do something consistently, we will eventually succeed! It’s not easy to be consistent as one faces failures along the way. However, if one understands that failure is normal and does not get affected by it; trust me! No one can stop us from becoming successful!
Another reason one needs to be consistent is that it takes time for one’s art to ‘reach’ the market. The process of visibility is slow. The value of our art depends upon our value in the market (i.e., greater the number of people who know us, higher the value of our art!).
Therefore, it’s more likely that more people will know us if we happen to stay an active painter over a longer period of time!
