Conversations with Amanda King

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda King.

Hi Amanda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started photography when I was 15. When my parents divorced, my dad got me my first camera. It helped me through one of my life’s toughest transitions! I loved playing around with it and dreamed of a place where I could do this for a living – but in small-town Louisiana, I never saw anyone doing anything with photography. I didn’t even know it was an option for a career – I thought it was becoming a nurse, teacher, or working in a grocery store. That was all I saw growing it, so I thought that was all there was. Then, I moved to Utah. There I discovered the other like-minded people like me. Other people wanting to follow their dreams of being a photographer. Because of surrounding myself with the right people at the right time, I was able to grow my business and find great work and clients! I thrived in Utah. It was a saving Grace for me. I lived in Utah for 5 years and it was easily the best place I could’ve ended up. I’m so thankful for all the people I’ve met and became friends with there. Since moving, my Instagram actually has gotten hacked and deleted. As disappointing as that is, I’m now implementing what I have been teaching people to better use Instagram to build my following up again, and it’s working!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been a long time coming. I’ve always struggled with imposter syndrome and comparing myself and my work to others. Over time it’s definitely gotten better as I’ve built up my confidence and worked hard to change my mindset.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the owner of Elevated Roots Imagery. I specialize in wedding photography after falling in love with photography through creative portraiture. I am most known for my wedding photography but I still love taking super creative photographs. I am most proud of every new wedding I get. Every next project becomes the next best that I can do.

What sets me apart from other photographers is being able to connect in different ways! I’m born and raised in south Louisiana and I love to make people feel like they have some real hospitality meeting me. I love knowing all my clients, their backgrounds, likes/dislikes, and what they are insecure about. I aim to shine the spotlight on the best parts of you that you love the most and show you how beautiful the parts of you aren’t proud of are.

How do you define success?
Success is how I feel. Although I am not as successful as I want to be, hitting the next personal glass ceiling is how I do fine success. Rising, again and again, no matter what may knock me down.
