Conversations with Anastasiia Allsop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasiia Allsop.

Hi Anastasiia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Anastasiia, Nastya for short. I am originally from Russia, but I met my husband, Nathan, who is from here in 2021. After going through the immigration process we started working here in Utah creating our little art business, Higgledy Piggledy Arts.

It started when I wanted to make some small figurines out of cotton in a style that is similar to paper mache. I had a lot of fun with that, but quickly I decided to move to different types of clays. Around that same time I got really interested in the vintage dolls that have a hard head, hands, and feet, but a soft, stuffed sewn body. I decided I was going to learn to make them. My strengths are in sculpting and painting, so I was able to get started with making the parts I could out of clay, and that is when I recruited my husband to do the sewing for the bodies. That is when we started working together, and most of our art since has been a collaboration!

In early 2025 we started showcasing our dolls with the Urban Art Gallery in Salt lake City, and started participating in their Connect program. Throughout the year, with the gallery’s encouragement, we branched out to making many types of things from pins and small jewelry, to relatively large scale sculptural pieces. Our largest piece was even able to win the Connect finals competition at the end of 2025! Recently we have started dabbling in ceramics as well, which has been a lot of fun.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have been pretty lucky to have a fairly smooth journey so far. There have been plenty of ups and downs though. It has been fairly tough to find our audience. We tried many art markets/farmer’s markets last year, and the response from people was overwhelmingly positive to our art, but selling is a different story. It has been a fun journey though.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We have a huge passion for animals, so most of our art is centered around them. Our style is very whimsical, and often is described as “creepy cute”.

We specialize in mixed media dolls and figures. We also make handmade jewelry/pins.

We are most proud of our win at the Connect Finals competition with Urban Arts last year. We put so much work into our piece, so it was very nice to have it rewarded.

Our style definitely sets us apart from others.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We can always be reached through our socials or email if anyone wants to work with us. As for support, anyone can do that by following us on our socials as well. We post about where we will be for any live markets or art festivals/events often. You will also be able to see our latest projects, visit our store links, and follow our journey there.
