Today, we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Wing Murphey.
Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I recently became certified in Tarot. I’ve always been interested in astrology, and I remember people’s birthdates from childhood! I would often look up charts at parties just to tell people about themselves. I studied psychology in college, so I’ve always had a fascination for understanding people. Something clicked when I read a person’s chart who I perceived a certain way.
While reviewing their description, I realized more about them, which helped me have more compassion and understanding for them instead of taking their actions personally. I didn’t start studying it until 2020, during the pandemic, when an opportunity came up through a school of applied astrology.
I only planned to take level one to get the basics, but I completed all three. It’s expanded to other teachers, books, and webinars, and I haven’t stopped studying since!
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I hesitated to put time and energy into learning astrology because I thought it would solidify me as one of the weird ones! I knew it had a skeptical connotation, but I think people are becoming more open to these subjects. Now that I’ve leaned into it, life has become more interesting beyond traditional approaches.
It makes sense time and time again for my life transitions and helping others. It’s ignited a passion in me as a tool for making sense of this world, why we are here, how we are all connected, and that there is a flow and order to the universe. I’ve always felt like a social weirdo, so that is why I’ve dedicated my life to understanding others and helping give them permission to be their authentic selves, too.
I’ve since expanded my interests to tarot, past lives, near-death experiences, and galactic origins. I love it all, even though people think it’s weird. I’m totally cool with it! But it is fun to talk to people who like to entertain these thoughts, too.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Being a former skeptic, I enjoy blowing people’s minds with the information I tell them about their charts. I have an element quiz on my website that tells a lot just by looking at a person’s elements of fire, air, earth, and water. There is so much more than the sun sign. I love to look up current transits going on in someone’s chart as it explains what they are going through, from relationships, careers, and health.
We all go through 5 midlife transits, starting in the late 30s through age 50, where one by one, we are transformed, spiritually awakened, and learn tools that we can then use to be the healer for others. I love doing parties for several mini-readings in one night! I create pottery mugs with moon phases, cats, and aliens on them. I will be selling pottery at Wheeler Farms Market on May 19th.
What were you like growing up?
I was always told I was so quiet. I have six planets in the water!
If I had known this, maybe I would have understood why I was not like the outgoing kids with fire and air, and that is okay! Astrology can benefit children in self-acceptance. I grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas, with a fun childhood playing at the nearby creek, but as a teenager, life got dark for various reasons.
I think people with a Starseed type nature often feel like they don’t fit in and can get themselves into situations where misunderstandings are compounded with more misunderstandings, which makes them feel more isolated. Sadly, it is the opposite of what we all really want with connection and acceptance.
I spent the next couple of decades pulling myself out of expectations of others to feel more like my natural self and surround my life with things that truly resonate with me.
