Conversations with Brianna Bravo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Bravo.

Hi Brianna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I was born and raised in Nebraska. My mom had me at 17 and raised us on her pretty much on her own. I’m the oldest of eight and my family literally means the entire world to me. I actually moved to Utah in 2016 in order to be closer to my little sister and my niece (who was about to be born).

I started doing makeup a little bit before I moved here because I started being more interested in modeling/the beauty world. I grew up in a predominantly white town, my family being lower middle class and Hispanic so I often felt ostracized when it came to beauty/body/societal standards. Crossing over into the beauty world has been the best decision I’ve ever made because I get to just be me. Whatever I think is beautiful, however, I feel beautiful.

Nobody gets to tell me how to be me. I’m very lucky because that translates into my client work, I’m just here to bring out whatever makes you feel beautiful. I’m not here to fix you, solely an addition to the beauty you already possess.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not, but a road worth traveling nonetheless. I’ve been homeless, struggled with addiction, I’ve been divorced. The worst part of it all would have to be imposter syndrome. I didn’t have a ton of support growing up, so having this whole community of people behind me was really overwhelming.

Thus, I just started doing something that made me feel good. I started this little business of mine with nothing but a desire to make other people feel the same way. Supported.

Helping people feel beautiful is the most humbling experience for me. People will always remember how you made them feel, and if I can make someone’s day even 1% better, especially in today’s day and age, then the struggle was all worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a hair and makeup artist. I specialize in doing makeup for boudoir/self-empowerment shoots.

I’m known for making my clients feel like my best friend the second they sit in my chair, until as long as they’ll have me. I’m most proud of the lasting impression I leave on people. It’s more than just making someone look beautiful, sometimes it’s changing their whole perspective of themselves and allowing them to really just feel GOOD.

I think what sets me apart is just my personality in general, I strive to be just a wholeheartedly loving hype person, and lucky it translates pretty well.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson: Beauty has no definition. There is no prototype. If you wanna wear rhinestones all over your face and black lipstick? Do it. Do you prefer a more natural look, with faux freckles? Do it.

Black bat-winged liner with glitter tears and joker style smudged lips? Literally, sign me up. The world is already so full of expectations and judgment. If someone’s hair and makeup express the best parts of what makes them, then, I’m so honored to be able to witness that vulnerability brought to light.
