Conversations with Christine Muggleton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Muggleton. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Redverz Gear is a family-owned and operated outdoor gear company. 15 years ago we designed the first-ever motorcycle tent and invented an entirely new camping category.  For Kevin it was a natural progression to design gear that supported his passion for worldwide, overland motorcycle travel. For me, Christine Muggleton, adventure riding was new and a trip from Denver, Colorado to Nicaragua and back was my first real taste of what would become a business and a passion. The camping gear we had packed for ourselves turned out to be essentially useless when it came to adequate shelter and security for ourselves and the bike over the 3-month journey and that is where the seeds of Redverz Gear were planted.

The fact that no gear out there felt truly adequate for our type of travel was weighing on our minds, and being the true entrepreneur that he is, Kevin set out  to design the first motorcycle tent with a garage, tall enough to stand up inside and park up a motorcycle. Many people can’t wrap their head around why you would want your bike inside the tent, but for us it was a simple answer to the need for added security, think out of sight out of mind, it offered us a clean, dry place to work on the motorcycle as well as a place to pack up panniers and gear out of the elements. Just because you can park a bike in the tent does not mean you have to. It’s just space, and our customers use it how they see fit. The garage is the ideal place to park up multiple chairs, to cook or wait out a storm. In an Atacama tent all of the daily functions that you need to carry out are simply best served in a space tall enough to stand up and move freely about inside.

The design is really well thought out. The tent is versatile, functional and performs like a boss in all weather conditions, it is easy to set up and packs reasonably down to a size that fits on a motorcycle. That is the true distinction, at just 21″ x 10″ packed, the tent offers the most tent and functionality that fits reasonably on the bike. We have what I would consider now a cult following and we love it. Once you have camped in our Atacama Expedition Tent you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. We like to think that we made being comfortable cool again.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business and seeing your design come to life is rewarding for sure. It also has its fair share of headaches and challenges. We’ve worked our way through the occasional design snafu, being deceived and having our first production run trapped and  inaccessible while our new fulfillment company was under Federal investigation, to the having our design stolen and cheap copies made to having  our logo held for ransom.

So definitely not smooth. But we are problem solvers who would prefer to spend time designing the best gear, so we stick with it and still the leading and original motorcycle tent company with a loyal customer base.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Kevin is an incredible professional photographer and avid motorcyclist.

He has written for National Geographic and raced in the infamous Dakar Rally multiple times. He is an entrepreneur and a very creative mind. Christine is also an artist, designer and businesswoman. We complement one another, where Kevin launches in without looking, Christine crosses up the “T”s and dots the “I”s.

What matters most to you?
We are incredibly proud of our tent design. We solve the most common complaints and problems associated with motorcycle travel and camping and love that we have elevated the experience for people worldwide.

We are most passionate about living a life of travel and adventure and so to be able to bring gear to others that helps them achieve the best experiences is really rewarding. We are also so proud of our original design. In this world of knock offs  we are proud to be true innovators.
