Conversations with Christopher James

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher James

Hi Christopher, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I originally got into podcasting over 10 years ago with my first podcast called “In Movie Nerds We Trust”. At the time i was doing stand up and going to shows, so it was a nice outlet. I stopped podcasting for a bit and it wasn’t until I started writing for an online publication called “Macabre Daily” doing horror movies reviews that I got inspired to start my current podcast “I Love Horror”. As a stand up comedian for over 15+ years it is nice to combine my comedic talents with my love of horror movies. Podcasting is also therapeutic for me, especially as someone who suffers from some mental health issues due to abuse as a child. It is relaxing to me and so much fun getting to connect with people within the world of horror. I also love recommending movies to people and hearing their favorite movies, so it is a great trade off. I always suggest anyone I meet to start a podcast. It is a great creative outlet (especially if you suffer from mental health issues) that gives you a happy and calm sense of accomplishment. I hope to one day do it as a full time career.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
3 years I think doing a podcast, or really anything consistently is never really easy. It is very much rewarding though. I think the things that are creative or things that involve you putting yourself out there is never easy. If it was easy everyone would do it. I am always learning, evolving and making my podcast the best it can be. Getting guests on, editing, doing social media posts and all that involves making a good podcast for people to enjoy is a lot of work, especially for a one man team like myself. In the end its worth it to hear and see the people enjoying the podcast, or to hear how much fun my guests had with me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Mainly these days it is hosting my podcast, writing and utilizing my comedic side as much as possible. I don’t know if I am “known for anything” but I would think the podcast is something that people are the most familiar with. That and of course the horror movie reviews I write. It might be a cliche thing to say, but I am proud of all the work I do. It takes a lot of focus, creativity and bravery to put yourself out there in any capacity. I am proud that I can complete and accomplish any project I do. I think what sets me apart from other people is my drive. If you ask my wife, I am a real go-getter. If I am passionate about something or want to do something creatively, I will do it with every fiber of my being and stay consistent with it. I wouldn’t say I want to be “famous” for what I do, but I would love it to get to a point that it’s something I do full time like I mentioned. I very much like doing something that brings joy to people as much as it brings joy to me to make, and also help some independent horror filmmakers out there have a platform to share their work.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My biggest supporter is my wife. I had this idea to do the podcast but podcasting is a VERY saturated market. I had some doubts if I would have what it takes to stand out but she is 1000% always encouraging me to put myself out there and try. She is my rock!
