Today we’d like to introduce you to Collective Dance Company.
Hello Collective Dance Company, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are Braidie Gummow & Lexi Labrum, the owners of Collective Dance Company LLC. We have been dancing together since we were 2 years old. Since then, we have become lifelong friends. We have been able to coach a drill team at Riverton high school for now 6 years and teach at a local studio called United Dance Center. We have loved dance and everything it brings for such a long time. Because of this, we wanted to bring people together to create a dance company called “Collective Dance Company”. We wanted to provide more opportunities for those out of high school to create and belong somewhere. We love the idea of the name collective because it brings a sense of community and belonging. Everyone should be uplifted and encouraged to showcase their strengths and talent! Utah is full of a lot of talent in the dance world, we wanted to showcase that even more! This is our first year up and running, we can’t wait to see where it goes from here!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As this is a very new business and things are still in the works, we have yet to experience it all. Although, we have been so very blown away by the support that we have received so far. We are so excited to see how our first concert pans out in February. We are eager and determined to get through all of the kinks in the road that come our way. We have big plans for Collective Dance Company, and we hope to continue to learn through all of the experience and opportunities that it offers us!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Both Lexi & Braidie are professional choreographers and dance teachers. We have been able to travel around the United States providing choreography to high school dance teams, studios, and more! Within our Collective Dance Company, we are creating pieces to showcase at our Concert and providing opportunities to dancers of all ages to participate and create as well. We love to mentor and help to bring out the best in others. Our choreography consists of several different genres (jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, contemp-pop, etc). We hope to continue to build and choreograph for many other studios & companies across the country!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Before starting out, we did a lot of research to find out what would work best for us and our business. We were able to set up a square account for all of our accounting matters and so far, it has been a lifesaver! Square is very user-friendly and familiar. To best communicate to our company members, we set up a ‘Band’ account on the BAND app. It is easy to set up calendar events, communicate through posts, submit photos and videos of our routines, and even a group chat. We have been using Band for various things over the years, we love it! Lastly, a huge resource that has helped us through this journey has been WIX. We were able to set up our first business website to show our ideas and details about what we have to offer all in one place for our clients/audience. All of these things have helped us on our journey!
