Today we’d like to introduce you to Darcy Doxey
Hi Darcy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a house with a dad who was a videographer and loved to take photos. At an early age, I saw him taking photos and got to hold his special cameras and equipment and I grew a love for it myself! Through high school and college I had fun taking a few photography classes here and there and just enjoyed capturing my memories with a camera. When I graduated from Utah State in 2011, my parents gave me my first and very own Nikon camera. That camera came with me on all my travels in and out of the U.S. Four years later after getting married and starting a family, I was living in Florida while my husband was attending dental school. One day some friends who were also in dental school asked if I would take some family photos for them with my camera. I told them I would love to, and my love for capturing other people’s memories and special moments began. I began taking photos for free for all of our dental school friends and their families and began to take photos for others as the word spread. I am so grateful for all of those families in the 4 years we lived in Florida that let me experiment, learn, and grow my photography skills through documenting their memories! When we moved to Nevada in 2019, I decided to officially turn my hobby into a business and Darcy Doxey Photography was born! My goal has always been to allow anyone to capture beautiful memories through photography no matter their walk of life or what budget they may have for photos. I loved growing my business in Nevada and continuing it after moving to Utah in 2022.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the hardest part of my journey was believing that I did have something to offer people and something that people will actually value and cherish. Especially after moving to Utah where there is definitely not a shortage of photographers, it sometimes feels hard to think I have a place among the talent that surrounds me. I have learned over the years, that everyone has something unique to offer and there is room for us all to grow and thrive!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a family and event photographer mainly focusing on newborn, family, and wedding photography. As I tell all my clients though, I love capturing any moment or any creative idea they come up with.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I am just excited to continue to find families to capture memories for and see how they’re family grows year after year! It’s like I become a part of the family and I love documenting their milestones.
