Conversations with Diana Torres

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Torres.

Hi Diana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
As a little girl, I always knew I either wanted to be a Cosmetologist or an undercover FBI agent. We all know where I ended up at. Or as I joke with my clients maybe I’m both, I just can’t tell you, or else I’ll blow my cover-up. I always knew I wanted to do something in the beauty industry, but I had to put my plans on hold as I became a mother at 16 years old. I put all my energy into becoming the best mother I could possible be. Move forward to three kids later and 21 years of age. I started to realize I didn’t want to just be a statistic, a teen mom. I wanted to do everything in my power to be the best example to not only my kids but to every young girl that had been or would ever be in the situation I had been in. Enrolling into Paul Mitchell, the School was the beginning of all the amazing experiences I would get to live. One of my biggest dreams was to one day get to work on films and TV shows doing hair and makeup, but back then, I had no idea how that would happen. Now I am so proud to say I have worked in some amazing film sets and TV shows. All because of the great mentors I have had along the way as well as the hard work, professionalism, and love I always tried to put into everything I do. That is where looks by Diana was born. I wanted to have a business that catered all things beauty. From nails, Lash extensions, and waxing to professional hair and makeup. My love for Bridal and Event Hair and makeup has grown throughout the years. Making women feel beautiful and confident on their special day is one of the most fulfilling experiences I will never get tired of. I now want to grow Looks by Diana and be able to teach and help young artists grow in this industry. My next goal is to be able to become a mentor to upcoming artists that want to learn and grow. To be a platform of knowledge, community, support, and lots of magic.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a mother has been a great blessing, but as I grew Looks by Diana, I’ve had to learn to balance both important aspects of my life. Many times, putting my business in the back burner. But the love for my career made me push through. I believe one of the struggles we often don’t talk about is our mental blocks. One of the biggest things I have struggled with is knowing I am worthy of grown. Thinking I am not good enough for the next step, or as some people would call it Imposter Syndrome. With time I have learned to be my own biggest cheerleader.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’d love to believe that my work brings a bust of confidence and a discovery of beauty within. I specialize In Bridal and Event hair and make-up, Commercial work, and Lash Extensions. Helping someone look beautiful is always rewarding but having the opportunity to help someone truly feel it is another level. I treat each client and Job with the passion, enthusiasm, importance, and professionalism as my very first one. People connections are very important to me. Knowing that after each client I have a newfound friend and connection is one of the things I am very proud of.

What matters most to you? Why?
I want to continue building a business base on connection. In a world full of so much body image, it’s important to me that my work allows my client to truly embrace their beauty.
