Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Luva Luva And Dajon Thompson.
Hi DJ Luva Luva and Dajon Thompson, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
LVRS SLC is a dynamic entertainment collective based in Salt Lake City, founded in 2019 by longtime friends DJ Luva Luva and Dajon Thompson. Their mission is to infuse the city’s nightlife with soulful, inclusive, and culturally rich experiences, drawing inspiration from vibrant scenes in cities like Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Chicago.
The LVRS team comprises six dedicated members: Luva and Thompson lead the vision, supported by Enzo Pighini (Business Development), Tré Bourdeaux (Accounting), Jalen Thompson (Midnight LVRS), and DJ Spaz. Each member plays a vital role in crafting events that go beyond typical nightlife, focusing on intentional music curation, artistic design, and community engagement.
LVRS events are known for their deep cuts, Black anthems, and nostalgic tracks, creating a space where attendees can connect meaningfully through music. Women of color significantly influence their musical selections, ensuring a soulful R&B sound that resonates with diverse audiences.
Beyond music, LVRS emphasizes community building and cultural celebration. They’ve hosted events like the “LVRS Lounge” in collaboration with The Ame House, featuring live performances by local artists, and have been involved in celebrations such as Juneteenth. Their gatherings aim to inspire growth and foster a sense of belonging among young professionals of color in Salt Lake City.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Lack of Diverse Infrastructure & Venues
Salt Lake City, while growing, has a relatively small population of People of Color, and finding venues that are not only inclusive but also familiar with hosting culturally specific events can be a challenge.
Limited Community Representation
Building momentum or attendance for events geared toward People of Color in Salt Lake City can be hard in a city where those communities are underrepresented or spread out. It may take more effort to connect with the right networks or create a sense of trust and cultural belonging.
Funding and Sponsorship
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
LVRS events created for marginalized communities often receive less funding and fewer sponsorships — especially in regions where equity isn’t prioritized or understood by local businesses and decision-makers. Putting together impactful and engaging events.
