Today we’d like to introduce you to Elexus Aaliyah.
Hi Elexus, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Elexus Aaliyah, an American author and mother. Once I gave birth to my darling daughter (and co-author) Miana Rose in 2018, I left the beauty industry to explore life as a stay-at-home mom. One day, an idea for a children’s book came to me as we did our morning routine, which I wrote down immediately.
I began brainstorming how to bring this story to life and incorporate my daughter while doing so. It took until Miana was 4 years old to finally bring the idea to fruition. Luckily, I waited long enough to have her help. We included portions of both of our life experiences to create our first book “The Ballet Besties”, which was met with overwhelming love.
With my daughter in Dance and Gymnastics, she was able to show and identify her favorite ballet moves to put into the story, along with names and ideas, making the process one to cherish forever. Currently, we have three children’s books out together on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life never seems to provide a perfectly paved road to go down when doing anything the first time. That is all part of the experience! Which in my opinion, is the best part. We reach our destinations with lessons for next time.
In my writing journey, I’ve struggled with impatience and perfectionism. I believe these are two areas where I needed growth in my life regardless, so having an opportunity to help my personal growth by doing what I love is a blessing.
Thanks – So what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for pairing with my daughter to create fun, imaginative children’s books and coloring books filled with fun, learning, and life lessons. I’m proud of the process, and how it’s given my daughter the space to be creative, share ideas, cooperate, and be heard.
Her face lights up in the creative process and the highlight of her days is often sharing her books with her friends. What sets me apart is the love put into my work. Once an idea comes forward, from the depths of wherever creativity lies in the brain, I get to work and enjoy every minute.
Our newest addition to the “Little Ones” collection, “The Halloween Home” is available now on Amazon just in time for the season.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I can say I was a quiet child with an over-active imagination. I excelled in my school work and would spend my free time sketching fashion designs and other miscellaneous drawings.
At age 12, I was accepted into the School of the Arts in my hometown as a visual arts major. Here, I was able to not only explore creating digital, classical, and 3D art but I gained experience in other majors such as creative writing and theater.
