Conversations with Elizabeth Gunter

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Gunter.

Elizabeth Gunter

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my entrepreneurial journey two decades ago when I founded Creative Well Design, a graphic design and branding business. With a passion for creativity and a keen eye for design, I embarked on this venture to help companies elevate their brands through visually compelling identities. Over the years, I honed my skills, built a solid client base, and established a reputation for delivering top-notch design solutions.

As Creative Well Design continued to thrive, I realized my love for art extended beyond digital mediums. In celebration of my fifth year in business, I opened Art Provides Gallery and Studio, a space dedicated to showcasing and nurturing local artistic talent. Through curated exhibitions, workshops, and community events, I aimed to foster a vibrant creative ecosystem and provide artists a platform to thrive.

Driven to expand my reach in the art world further, I recently ventured into the art broker business under Art Broker Utah. Leveraging my expertise in design and branding, I launched this new venture to connect artists with collectors and facilitate the acquisition of exceptional artwork. With a focus on fostering meaningful connections and promoting emerging talent, I’m excited to continue positively impacting the art community.

Today, I am proud to have built a diverse portfolio of businesses under the umbrella of Creative Well Design and Art Broker Utah. Each endeavor allows me to channel my entrepreneurial spirit and contribute to the cultural landscape while empowering artists and businesses to achieve their goals. I am committed to furthering my journey, exploring new opportunities, and leaving a lasting legacy in art and design.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Navigating the entrepreneurial journey has been both rewarding and challenging. While I’ve experienced significant growth and success, it hasn’t always been smooth. Like any business owner, I’ve encountered obstacles and struggles.

One of the primary challenges I faced early on was establishing Creative Well Design in a competitive market. Building a solid client base and earning trust in the industry required dedication, persistence, and a commitment to delivering exceptional results. Overcoming this hurdle involved investing time and effort into networking, marketing, and continuously refining our services to meet the evolving needs of our clients.

Additionally, opening Art Provides Gallery and Studio in February 2020, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, presented its challenges. Despite our excitement and anticipation, the sudden emergence of the pandemic brought unforeseen obstacles. Government restrictions, lockdown measures, and safety concerns disrupted our plans and impacted foot traffic, event attendance, and sales. However, we quickly adapted to the new reality by embracing digital platforms, hosting virtual exhibitions, and implementing safety protocols to ensure the well-being of our staff and visitors.

Launching Art Broker Utah during such uncertain times further compounded the challenges. Building credibility in a new venture and establishing relationships within the art community demanded persistence and strategic networking efforts. Furthermore, navigating the complexities of the art market, including pricing, valuation, and negotiations, required a deep understanding of the industry landscape amidst unprecedented circumstances.

Despite these challenges, I’ve remained resilient and adaptable, leveraging setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning. Each obstacle has provided valuable lessons that have ultimately strengthened my businesses and contributed to my personal and professional development. By embracing challenges head-on and persevering through adversity, I’ve been able to overcome obstacles and continue moving forward on my entrepreneurial journey.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Resiliency is the quality or characteristic that is most important to my success. I’ve encountered numerous obstacles and challenges throughout my entrepreneurial journey. Whether navigating a competitive market, overcoming unexpected hurdles, or adapting to unforeseen circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic, resilience has been essential in helping me persevere and continue moving forward.

Resilience enables me to bounce back from setbacks, learn from failures, and remain steadfast in pursuing my goals. It empowers me to stay focused, motivated, and proactive, even in adversity. By embracing challenges as opportunities for growth and viewing setbacks as temporary obstacles rather than insurmountable barriers, I’ve been able to weather storms and emerge stronger on the other side.

Resilience fosters adaptability and flexibility, allowing me to pivot, innovate, and evolve in response to changing circumstances. It instills confidence in my abilities to navigate uncertainty, take calculated risks, and turn setbacks into opportunities for innovation and growth.

Ultimately, resilience is not just about overcoming obstacles; it’s about maintaining a positive mindset, staying resilient in the face of adversity, and continuously striving for excellence. This quality has been instrumental in my success, enabling me to overcome challenges, achieve my goals, and thrive in business and life.
