Conversations with Elliott Sulkis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elliott Sulkis.

Elliott Sulkis

Hi Elliott, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My passion for food started around 2019 when I lost 50 pounds through diet and exercise. Learning and committing to real ingredients became a household priority with my now wife, Jackie.

Jackie made me some oven-baked pork when we first started dating, which came out a bit undercooked (lol), so we sort of just agreed I would handle the cooking from that point forward.

I started to watch a lot of YouTube cooking videos mainly because I enjoyed them, then I actually started to learn a lot, and was paying attention to them more and put what I learned into practice.

In 2022 we moved from Boston to Utah for my day job, and had the opportunity to build our home from scratch. Once we got there, we realized what a nice backdrop our kitchen would be for cooking videos. I was already cooking dinner every night for my wife and son, so we figured why not start to document it.

The food space is very competitive on social media, and healthy food can get boring. We’ve tried many different style videos, but recently found our footing in the “cooking for my wife” space.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Ha, smooth… For starters, we started the page when Jackie was pregnant with our second baby, and our first was a wild toddler. The biggest struggle we’ve faced has been finding the time to film and edit between two babies, a strict nap schedule, and two full-time jobs.

Solidifying our style has taken some time, with lots of trial and error, and huge fluctuations in views. Some things landed, and some things didn’t.

Shortly before we landed on our current style, we almost quit the page. Our views were in the gutter, and it was too time consuming. My wife and I worked on a realistic posting schedule that we both could handle, and that would still be consistent enough for our followers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We’re sales professionals by day, and food content creators on the weekends. My wife and I are known for making healthy food relatable, quick, easy and fun.

A lot of food accounts are just one person, so what sets us apart is that we do it together. We film together, come up with ideas together, work with brands together and our followers get a glimpse of our fun, silly relationship in general.

We are most proud of our growth and the genuine community we’ve created. Our followers are loyal, fun and engaged in every aspect of us and our account.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Everyone says it, but consistency is key. Consistency doesn’t look like posting twice a day like we did in the beginning but just showing up on a schedule you can stick to, showing up in your stories and engaging as much as possible with your community.

There’s a trial and error period with finding your style and how you want your account to be.

I wish we were ourselves out of the gate instead of trying to copy other styles and be something we’re not.

Committing to simple, quick healthy food doesn’t have to be more complicated than that. Adding US into the mix and making it fun saw much more success than just pretty, complicated food.
