Conversations with Enid Alvarez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Enid Alvarez.

Hi Enid, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I moved here from Puerto Rico when I was 12, my mom wanted me to have a better future outside of the island. Before I started following my dreams. I worked as a property manager for about 6 years after that I jumped around to different jobs. At the beginning of 2022, I just realized I wasn’t happy with anything I was doing and decided to take a leap of faith and just jump into the beauty industry. Right now, I’m a freelance makeup artist and I’m currently working on my cosmetology license so I can be able to do everything I love to do. I’ve been doing my own hair since I was in high school and I always had a passion for everything related to the beauty industry, but I was always too afraid to follow my dreams because I felt like I wasn’t going to make it. But I recently started working on myself, learning to love myself, to put boundaries, and just overall respecting me as a person. So here I am! Following my dreams, making people look beautiful and feel beautiful, there’s something so satisfying about making someone smile and knowing you’re the reason why they feel that good.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Honestly, it hasn’t been easy. It’s been hard. Having to work plus do this on the side has been a challenge. I go to school full-time and then go to work and on my days off I work on my beauty business. So, I have no days off but it’ll be worth it at the end. Financially it’s been a struggle, aside from my bills, I invest on my work. Although it hasn’t been smooth, honestly, I tell myself every day that at the end it’ll be worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So right now, I’m a makeup artist, I’ve recently started branching out to people outside of my friend circle. It’s fun knowing that you can make someone look beautiful. Since I’m a cosmetology student all of my hair work is free until I’m licensed, but I’m specializing in Vivids/fashion colors and modern haircuts. What sets me apart from others is that I’m not afraid of taking on a challenge, I like pushing myself to the limit and know that I tried even if I fail at the end. I learn early in life that when you want something you gotta work hard for it and not stop even when you’ve got it.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m Autistic and I’ve got ADHD and I don’t let that define me; I know I’m capable of achieving great things.
