Today we’d like to introduce you to Foggy Jack.
Hi Foggy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into magic started much like it does for many performers—watching the greats redefine the craft. I grew up at the perfect time to witness the television heyday of Criss Angel and David Blaine, while studying classic icons like Penn & Teller and Lance Burton. As I matured in the art, I found myself drawn toward modern innovators like Dan Sperry, Jay Sankey, and Piff the Magic Dragon, which ultimately guided me to my true artistic home in mentalism. Finding that niche completely changed my life, taking me on the road to perform in incredible venues and experience things I once only dreamed of.
At its core, mentalism isn’t just about tricking an audience; it’s about connection and storytelling. To tell great stories on stage, you have to devour great literature, which is why I’ve always been an obsessive reader. I jumped headfirst into studying narrative depth and world-building through masters of horror like Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft, while also digging off the beaten path into the esoteric writings of Aleister Crowley and historical theories of Graham Hancock. Immersing myself in rich lore shaped the foundational atmosphere of everything I create.
That unique blend of horror, lore, and magic is how “Foggy Jack” was born. It actually started back in 2016 as a modest Instagram page dedicated purely to my passion for Halloween and horror. That initial page sparked a community, expanded into a podcast, and continuously evolved. When the 2020 pandemic locked everyone inside, I used that time to fully fuse the Foggy Jack world with live mentalism. Once the country reopened, I hit the road, bringing immersive, story-driven magic to conventions, festivals, and theaters nationwide.
For me, a show is never just a sequence of impressive tricks—it’s an environment built for shared laughter, genuine mystery, and lifelong memories. Right now, that vision is growing bigger than ever. I’m currently building out an ambitious coast-to-coast performance lineup for 2027, alongside preparing for production on a nationwide television series slated to film that same year.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all—I don’t think a truly rewarding creative path is ever smooth. For me, the biggest hurdle has always been imposter syndrome. I never walked the traditional path that most magicians take. The standard playbook usually involves joining local magic clubs, grinding through low-stakes competitions, performing $20 kids’ birthday parties, and hoping to eventually land in Las Vegas.
I skipped those early traditional rungs entirely. Even though I’ve been practicing magic since I was ten years old, when I started performing publicly as Foggy Jack, I jumped straight into larger-scale, immersive shows. Starting three steps ahead was an incredible blessing, but it naturally came with a lingering sense of self-doubt about whether I had ‘earned’ my spot in the same way.
To overcome that, I continuously have to take a step back, look at where I’ve been, and recognize what I’ve built by forging my own distinct path. I’ve learned to own my non-traditional route, trust in the connection I build with my audience, and keep pushing forward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work as a Paranormal Mentalist, specializing in mind-reading and illusion wrapped in a distinctly darker, story-driven atmosphere. Beyond mentalism, I incorporate classic magic and authentic sideshow acts into my performances, and outside the theater, I’m an active paranormal investigator.
Online, I’ve built a community as a content creator, accumulating over 15 million views and growing a follower base of more than 50,000 across platforms. I’m most proud of taking this niche concept on the road, traveling across the country to bring immersive mentalism shows to audiences at conventions, festivals, and major events from coast to coast.
What sets me apart is the total immersion and lore I bring to the craft. A show isn’t just a collection of tricks; it’s an atmospheric, shared experience designed to spark genuine connection and leave people with lifelong stories. Looking ahead, I’m incredibly excited to push those boundaries even further—both with an extensive live performance lineup booked for 2027 and through a television series currently in production with Busted Bear Productions, scheduled to film nationwide that same year.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My biggest supporter without a doubt is my little brother. He’s a real-life hero—a wildland firefighter and EMT—and even though his day job looks vastly different from life as an entertainer, he’s the main person I lean on. He’s my sounding board for every high and low in this business. Having someone in my corner who does such high-stakes, heroic work keeps me grounded, and his constant encouragement gives me the soundboard and motivation I need to keep pushing forward on this wild journey.
