Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Morgan
Hi Haley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hey, I’m Haley! My story is a little unconventional but really close to my heart. I’m a mom of two amazing little girls, and for a long time, I was working a corporate job that kept me away from them for long hours. As much as I appreciated the stability and structure that came with my career, I realized I wanted to find a way to spend more time with my children, and also do something that would ignite my passion and creativity.
I’ve always had a love for capturing moments—whether it was with my phone or a basic camera—but it wasn’t until March of 2024 that I really picked up my first DSLR camera. At that time, I was feeling a little burnt out in my corporate role and yearning for a change. My goal was simple: to find something that would allow me the flexibility to be more present for my girls while pursuing a career that felt more authentic to me.
What started as a hobby quickly turned into something much more. I threw myself into learning everything I could about photography, taking courses, watching tutorials, and practicing as much as I could. Within just a few months, I found myself booking clients and gaining confidence in my skills. My focus naturally gravitated toward weddings and family photography. There’s something so special about capturing those intimate, joyful moments—whether it’s a couple saying “I do” or a family sharing a laugh together. I love how photography allows me to freeze time for people, preserving memories that will last a lifetime.
Now, just eight months later, I’m beyond grateful for how quickly my business has grown. HM Photography has become a full-fledged business, and I’m busy with clients more than I ever anticipated. The work I do doesn’t just fulfill my creative side, but it also aligns perfectly with my personal values: spending more time with my girls and building a business that allows me to create meaningful connections with clients while doing something I truly love.
In a short amount of time, I’ve learned so much about running a business, connecting with clients, and refining my craft, and I’m excited to continue growing and evolving as a photographer. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I’m looking forward to what the future holds.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a completely smooth road, but that’s part of what makes the journey so rewarding! Starting a business in a field like photography, especially when you’re relatively new to it, definitely comes with its ups and downs. In the beginning, there were a lot of challenges—learning the technical aspects of my camera, figuring out the business side of things, building my portfolio, and getting my name out there. It can be overwhelming at times, especially balancing everything with being a mom and managing family life.
But with each challenge, I’ve learned and grown. I remember early on feeling a little unsure about my work—imposter syndrome is real! But I kept pushing through, practicing as much as I could, seeking feedback from more experienced photographers, and trusting the process. I also found that the photography community, both locally and online, has been incredibly supportive, which has helped me a lot.
One of the biggest hurdles was transitioning from the corporate world to full-time entrepreneurship. There was a lot to learn about managing my own schedule, dealing with business finances, and handling the unexpected challenges that come with being your own boss. But the rewards have been well worth it. I get to do something I love every day, and most importantly, I get to spend more time with my daughters, which was the whole reason I started this journey in the first place.
Overall, I wouldn’t trade the challenges because they’ve helped shape me into the photographer and business owner I am today. I still face obstacles, but I’ve come to see them as opportunities for growth and improvement. And the fact that I’m able to balance a thriving photography business while being present for my family makes all the hard work so much more meaningful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in capturing meaningful moments for couples and families, with a particular focus on weddings and family photography. I absolutely love telling stories through my lens, whether it’s the intimate glance between a couple on their wedding day or the candid laughter of a family playing together. For me, it’s all about connection—capturing those genuine emotions and fleeting moments that people might not even realize they’re experiencing at the time.
What I’m most proud of is the way I’ve been able to build a business so quickly in such a short amount of time. My clients often tell me that they appreciate how comfortable I make them feel in front of the camera, which is something I take great pride in. I’ve always believed that the best photos come when people are relaxed and being themselves, so creating that comfortable, easy-going atmosphere is something I’ve really honed in on. I think that’s one of the things that sets me apart—I’m not just taking photos; I’m creating an experience for my clients. I want them to feel like they’re having fun, not just posing for pictures. It’s about creating memories, not just images.
Another thing I’m really proud of is how quickly I’ve built strong relationships with my clients. Many of my past clients have become repeat clients, whether it’s for family photos after a wedding or for milestone moments like maternity or newborn shoots. Being able to document different stages of their lives is something that makes my job incredibly fulfilling.
In terms of what sets me apart, I think it’s the combination of my genuine love for storytelling and my attention to detail. I make sure that no moment goes unnoticed, whether it’s the little ones playing with their new wedding rings or the quiet, tender moments between a mother and child. I also think being a mom myself allows me to connect with families in a unique way—I know how fast time flies and how important it is to capture those memories, which is why I put so much care and attention into every session.
Overall, what I’m most proud of is the positive feedback I get from my clients and the trust they put in me to document some of the most important moments of their lives. That connection and the ability to preserve memories for others is what keeps me so passionate about my work.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is spending quality time with my daughters and doing work that I love. Photography allows me to be present with my family while also pursuing my passion. I truly enjoy capturing special moments for others—whether it’s a couple’s wedding or a family’s laughter—knowing that those memories will be cherished for years to come. The creative process of photography is something I find so fulfilling, and being able to combine that with my values of family and connection brings me so much joy.
