Conversations with Heather DeWitt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather DeWitt.

Hi Heather, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Ever since I was a little girl I’ve always wanted to do hair.

I love the creativity of it. I had always dreamed about opening my own salon. When we started the build-out of the salon I was eight months pregnant with twin boys. I was put on bedrest by my doctor since I stood all day they were worried that I would go into early labor.

So with the help of my husband my father and my brother they watched over the transformation of an empty shell into a salon.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The first couple of years were definitely more difficult. But with a good foundation of stylists, we were able to move forward and create an awesome working environment.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do extensions, colors, and cuts. I love transforming my client’s hair. The best is when they sit in my chair and tell me to do whatever I want. I know my clients so well that they’re always very happy.

I’ve been doing hair for almost 20 years I’ve built up a lot of great relationships not only with my stylists but with my clients.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’d say I’ve had good luck but doesn’t good luck come from hard work? I believe you can have good luck if you make it for yourself.
