Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivette Amidan.
Hi Ivette, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I am the oldest of 5 sisters. When I was in early middle school my parents tried to buy a house multiple times but were always denied the loan with no help or guidance. Fast forward to late high school, my parents and I met a young female Hispanic loan officer, and we told her about our desire to buy a house and our bad experience. This loan officer offered to help. Came to find out that my parents didn’t have bad credit they just didn’t have any credit, and no one bothered to explain or guide my parents on credit education.
This loan officer helped my parents build credit and eventually got them approved and bought our first house.
During the loan process, I was involved in helping my parents due to the language barrier and all the documents being in English only. I helped gather all the documents the bank asked for. It was a long process and stressful, but we did it. The loan officer was impressed with my involvement and how I took charge of translating all the documents to my parents so they would understand what they were signing and made sure they understood the terms of the loan.
The loan officer asked me if I was interested in becoming her assistant, she was looking for a Spanish-speaking assistant, and I said yes. Since then, I have dedicated my career to helping the Hispanic community achieve homeownership. Every family I help is special. I will never forget the feeling when the realtor gave my parents the keys to our house, my sisters and I raced each other upstairs to claim our rooms and it was the most amazing feeling. I believe in building wealth through homeownership.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, there were many times when I wanted to give up I started young in this industry, and being young I struggled with people trusting me with their dream of homeownership I kept going and fought hard to make a name for myself. My work and passion to help families paid off.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Senior Mortgage Specialist and have been helping families achieve homeownership for 21 years.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love all the 4 seasons, I love the people. I can’t say I dislike anything. Utah is just beautiful!
