Conversations with Jack Vaughn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Vaughn

Hi Jack, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Prestige Worldwide Camping started in 2020 by myself and my father Jeff. After taking our own camping trip to Moab, renting a trailer from Outdoorsy, the idea came to mind of a potential way to start a business. So, we sought out our first trailer and eventually purchased our custom teardrop trailer we still own today. This trailer started off as a project build for the both of us, and we have slowly added piece on piece to it. After successfully renting out that trailer the first year, with the spike of rental demand with Covid, we were able to purchase our next few units. Since then, we have shuffled our inventory, and now we rent out 6 camping travel trailers full time.

As a young, teenage entrepreneur, I had to develop all business skills from the ground up. I self taught myself each component of business, with the mindset of keeping the customer in mind. From building our website to allow direct bookings, to relations with customers, to marketing, finance, and customer support, I have developed essential business skills through this business.

Currently, we are searching our community for Class B camper vans to rent under consignment. We started our consignment program as Phase II of our business model, splitting the profits with owners of underused camper vans, providing a 100% passive income source to such owners. The success of renting out camper vans has been at large these past 2 years, as we have shared the income with 4 RV owners, and hope to continue to expand.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With all businesses comes associated challenges. Upfront the greatest challenge was in setup of each component of the business in time for the first rental. Later, as the day to day operations become smoother, the greatest struggles were in each change in our fleet. We have experienced several claims of damages to our RVs, and the cost of repairs and extreme delay in repair availability has set us back at times.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a full time college student at the University of Utah. This business has been my first job, and this is all I have worked for 4 years. Jeff, my father and business partner is a Firefighter for Salt Lake City Fire Department. It has been challenging at times making room in our both busy schedules for the inconsistent schedule the business provides. I am proud of Jeff’s commitment while still having a full time job, as I know he is proud of my commitment as well.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
