Conversations with Jorge Tenorio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Tenorio.

Hi Jorge, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well, we are Mexican and we love to eat, as part of our daily lives was going out to try food, we found that we could not find tacos that would satisfy our palate specifically Tacos al Pastor which we crave very often, we gave up on the idea of eating good tacos in Utah and stopped looking for them until one day jokingly said: “What about if we make them?” we started making some and selling them on our garage, eventually we found that people asked for more and more until we realized we had to make the jump from garage sale to an actual place, honestly we did not know anything about restaurants when we decided to do it but we continued with the idea, we thought it was “easier” with a restaurant than a food truck so we went that route. In January 15, 2021 we opened Holy Taco in Orem, a Hole in the Wall restaurant in the middle of a Small strip mall, The name came easily, the Taco al Pastor is the staple taco in Mexico and since we specialize in Al Pastor and that is the only meat we do at this time we decided to call it: Holy Taco in honor of the best taco in Mexico.
Since we opened we were named the one of the best 10 places to eat in Utah County by Yelp in 2023 and in 2025 Yelp named us “The Best Tacos in Utah” in their Article “The best tacos in each state”.

We feel humbled and feel a responsibility to live up to the name so we strive each day to bring everything fresh to you, WE DO NOT OWN A FREEZER, we cut meat, marinate and build a Spit for each location EVERYDAY, sometimes twice a day, we prepare our salsas and chop everything daily.

in 2025 we just opened our second location in Pleasant Grove and we are expected to open another one in Saratoga Springs later this year, we are excited to continue growing thanks to you and all the people who we cook for.
We are also taking a lot of weddings this year since we started catering, the goal is to open as many locations as we can without compromising on quality, we are making an effort to have the same taste in all locations and so far we achieved that, we will continue to improve service and availability in new locations.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Everybody is going to answer the same, COVID, but we did not slowed down during the pandemic, but we had to re learn a lot of things in order to improve, our real struggles were learning the business as we grew, we have an AMAZING TEAM, yes people move but we have had the opportunity to have a lot of employees grow with us and that makes us happy.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well my wife and I have started some businesses and we love to be Entrepreneurs, we know sales, but I also do Photography and Graphic Design, my wife is good with all the paperwork and permits so we make a great team, we have incredible people with us, our GM, and the managers of the restaurants do amazing work, we are a team and I truly believe that WE as a group are the reason we are in a good position.

We are super proud of our product, some people might not like it and that is ok, it is subjective, we believe our tacos taste like Real Mexican Street tacos from Mexico City.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That we did not know what we were doing at the beginning, of course we know how to cook, we have a Professional chef in the team, also my wife can pretty much replicate any flavor so in between they, anything is possible, and me, I love to eat so I love to be the one who tries everything.

Also don’t expect to enter into an Ordinary Mexican Spot, we do not have Mariachis or Live Music or Mexican paraphernalia in our restaurants, our Music is curated to evoke the feelings we want while you eat your Original tasting Tacos al pastor. Also our prices are amongst the lowest ones in similar taco spots and with fresh, fresh ingredients.
