Today we’d like to introduce you to Juanton.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My Name is Juan Brito. I am a 19-year-old half-Puerto Rican, half-Dominican artist developing my music in Utah. I go as “Juanton” on my music. I started freestyling and doing my version of Spanish songs when I was 14 years old, inspired by my older brother, that used to freestyle when he was that age too. After a year into freestyling my brother brought me an idea for a song and the people to make it happen so I went with it. By that same time, I went through heartbreak and casually the song Idea was about moving on from a relationship so I was really inspired at that moment. After that, I became a solo artist and recorded some songs but didn’t make an official song that I performed until 2018 at 16 years old. In the span of 2018 -2019 a lot of things happened in Puerto Rico and my life that hold me from making music but also made me move from Puerto Rico to Utah to finish school. I ended up meeting another Puerto Rican with the same passion as me for music and casually he wanted to produce instead of singing so we built a music studio in his apartment where we developed a lot of ideas and music that includes my two latest releases “Paris” and Energía”. After that, in 2021-2022, I went back to Puerto Rico to see my family and decided that it was time to fully develop my talent and music. Since Cache Valley and Utah was always supportive of my music, I thought it would be a good idea to do that here. As of right now, I’m working on releasing my first English song before the year ends, along with doing some presentations around Cache Valley and Salt Lake City. With God ahead, I hope I can grow my fan base larger here in Utah before the year ends and start 2023 full of shows and new music both in English and Spanish.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an independent artist and trying to figure out what is the best way to go and having so many music references and different styles doing good today it’s hard to decide which road or genre of music to go. That is a struggle that I feel almost every artist has had in a moment in their career and I’m sure I’ll soon figure out 100% what my way to go and identity as an artist.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My artistic name is “Juanton” I specialize in Spanish music, mostly in Afrobeats, Trap, Reggaeton, and R&B. I’m most known for my second to the last release, “Paris” which is an Afrobeat song and Spanish version of “love nwantiti” by Ckay. My most proud moment was recently by the end of October when I did my first presentation as a solo artist at “The Event Center” in Logan and felt like nerves didn’t take over for me and felt the positive energy of the crowd towards me. I feel what sets me apart from the others, in general, is my versatility in terms of music and being more experimental towards it due to that I’ve done many genres of music that haven’t been released yet and have received good feedback from all of them.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’ve always put 100% of my trust in the hands of God and how my family keeps up praying for my dreams to come true and go the correct way, I’ve also noticed In my experience and the things that I’ve been living lately with my music that I found comfort in trusting myself with decisions made, sticking up with them as long as you’re confident on it, being brave enough to do things on your own and letting yourself discover and experience new things with your talent.
