Conversations with Kimberlin Chipman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberlin Chipman.

Hi Kimberlin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always loved doing nails. It started when I was in 6th grade and my mom got me a nail kit for Christmas. I would do my nails everyday to match my outfits and just loved everything about it!
I eventually got licensed as a nail tech and have loved every second of it. There is something about connecting with people and making them feel beautiful and confident that I love. A few years after getting my license I decided to start teaching as well. I now have had over 30 students who I have taught and helped license and it has been a dream to, again, connect with these people and build relationships over what may seem like something trivial, but to me is so much more.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been easy. Building a clientele is hard, and after my first 6 months of building a clientele I had to start over because I had relocated.
It took so much time and dedication and a lot of education and learning.

One struggle I faced was people not ever taking me seriously. They heat they I do nails and consider it a “hobby” or a “side gig” not something that I have worked really hard to build and create a business and livelihood for myself and my family.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a nail tech and nail tech educator! I have been doing this for over 6 years.
I specialize in structured gel manicures and hand painted nail art. I also have taught 30+ students as an instructor.
I am very proud of my work and that I want to create beautiful nails but I also make sure to keep the health and integrity of them. I do not cut corners. I want to be as educated about my field as I can, and I also want to educate my clients as well.

I think one thing that sets me apart from others, is (I know cheesy…) ME!!
I love my clients and every person who sits in my chair. I want them to feel comfortable, beautiful, and enjoy their service. I try to make them laugh, I will cry with them, and be whatever they need, all while giving them a beautiful set of nails.

What matters most to you?
Being authentic. I want to be real with my clients and have them know that this is my livelihood however, I also want them to know that I am also their friend. I want to help them and be understanding, I just ask that they reciprocate because at the end of the day, life is hard. And we are all doing our best, so let’s all help each other in any small way we can because the small things make the biggest difference!
