Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddy DeVries and Ashley Walsh. They share their story with us below:
Ashley and Maddy both met in CT while working for a furniture company. They then spent the next several years working for various design firms with countless aesthetics. At the beginning of the year, they decided to make the jump to create their own firm focussed on a unique client experience. MDS is very client driven in the sense that they prioritize the clients wants and needs over their own personal design styles. Their experience with different design firms from coast to coast has given them the knowledge to create flexible and unique designs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a company together has been a dream of Ashley and Maddy’s for several years. When the timing finally seemed right, it was still extremely nerve wracking to take the leap but thankfully, it has been an extremely rewarding journey so far. Their level of experience allowed them to feel prepared for running a business. The biggest struggle has been the operations side of the business and developing an understanding of the finances, whereas the design side comes so much more naturally.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Maddy has years of experience as an interior designer, but what sets her apart from most creatives is that she is extremely detail oriented when it comes to overall project management. What most people don’t know is how many hours a designer truly spends on a job site throughout all the phases of construction giving her an understanding of construction logistics. She is an incredibly organized planner and her enthusiasm is unmatched, resulting in both great client and vendor relations.
Ashley went to school for textiles and has extensive knowledge on materials and their application in a space. She spent a few years in product development designing fabrics and wallpapers for a lifestyle brand in CT. Her background gives her a unique perspective on interior design and she excels in pulling together interesting schemes that sometimes push clients to experiment with ideas outside of their comfort zone.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
A lot of people tend to ask where the name “Morgan Design Studio” came from. Both Maddy and Ashley’s middle name is Morgan, and it’s as simple as that!
MDS works with clients all over the country and location isn’t a concern when taking on new projects. They currently have clients from coast to coast and love how location inspires the unique design aesthetic of each project.
