Conversations with Martin Skupinski

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martin Skupinski.

Hi Martin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Upon moving to Salt Lake City in 2008 I discovered that was no ballroom dance studio in the area. I was very surprised, beccause I had just moved from Phoenix where there were over 20 studios. Having been a professional dance instructor all of my life I felt that it was a great opportunity to fill the void. Within a year of incorporating Ballroom Utah Dance Studio and renting a small location, the business had grown exponentially and we moved to a larger facility.

We have now been operating in Salt Lake City for 18 years and have built a solid reputation through a high level of instruction and community involvement. The studio has won multiple business and dance competion top studio awards.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it was not a smooth road as it would be with any new business. However, it was even more difficult to introduce society to a new idea. As I mentioned before, there were no other adult dance studios in the city.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Professional Ballroom Dance Instructor and Competitor. I have been teaching since 1987. I possess a very unique talent of being able to teach anybody how to dance. I created tri-sequential teaching method that allows new students to learn with ease and speed. For many, many years I had the title of one of the best dance instructors in the world. My students say that I have knack teaching students so that they learn quickly and have a good time at the same time. I have trained many champions in many different styles, inclulding American Smooth, American Rhythm and even an ice skating Olympic Champion.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
In addition to the usual 24/7 dedication to the job, I have been told that I have the ability to make people very comfortable and, therefore, make them feel that they are a part of my family.
