Conversations with Matt Peterson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Peterson.

Matt, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Nature’s Fusions, the parent company behind Nutri Supplements, was founded in 2009 by three brothers—David, CJ, and Matt—inspired by a deeply personal family health journey. Their younger sister faced a thyroid cancer diagnosis at just 18, sparking a quest for transparent, effective natural remedies by starting Nature’s Fusions Essential Oils. A few years later, CJ, suffered from AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). Their drive was reignited and their mission evolved when their father suffered three heart attacks in five days, pushing them headfirst into the supplement market. As they strove to research, formulate, and provide the best science-backed supplements on the market, they found groundbreaking research on NAC Ethyl Ester—a revolutionary ingredient that supercharged glutathione levels like no other supplement.

From these roots, Nutri Supplements emerged as a mission-driven brand revolutionizing dietary supplementation with ultra-bioavailable formulas for longevity and efficacy. Today, with over 15 years in business, we operate as a vertically integrated manufacturing facility where we control every touchpoint—from ingredient sourcing to final packaging—for unmatched quality and traceability.

There are 9 kids in the family. Our parents and half of the kids work in the company now and love working together!

Our Chief Chemist and R&D team work daily to improve the products we make and we outsource hundreds of product tests each year to certified and reputable Laboratories throughout the USA. Everything goes through our manufacturing facility out of Orem, Utah that is cGMP, FDA registered, NSF Supplement certified, Organic Certified, Peta, Halal, UL and EPA certified.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth ride and there have been countless roadblocks in the way. From family members with potentially deadly illness to failing industries, companies and covid. We’ve pivoted multiples times in our business and had rapid growth followed by rapid fails due to bankruptcy, covid and more.
Right before covid we were a co-packer for a large company selling into Bed Bath & Beyond. This accounted for a large percentage of our income. When Covid hit and Bed Bath & Beyond filed for bankruptcy, our largest customer didn’t get paid, and so we didn’t get paid. We had to let go of almost our entire marketing department for our own brands as well as many of our production employees and only survived by taking out the full amount against our home equity line of credit to meet payroll. This is the moment that Nutri Supplements was launched after years of researching to help our father after his heart attacks.
Now we have growing pains where we’ve managed to get placement on store shelves, like Sprouts Farmers Market and The Vitamin Shoppe, but are struggling to keep up with the costs of providing free fills and huge advertising/discounts to national chains.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I spend my day with many many hats as we’re still in startup mode and have recently lost some key employees to school/having kids that didn’t really have any backups other than me.
I graduated in Business Management from BYU with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship. We started our first company Nature’s Fusions while i was in school. My oldest brother David was applying for the MBA program at BYU and my second brother CJ was also at BYU. David got into the MBA program and CJ was diagnosed with AML a couple years into starting our company. This led to the entire company being on my shoulders until CJ was better and David was in his second year of the MBA. I spent the first years of the company just learning literally everything there was about running your own company without a mentor and without any real-life experience. Also having not worked for anyone else in my entire life. I had grown up doing small things like running my own eBay company, lawn service and scouts, so i had an entrepreneurial mindset though.
I learned social media, google ads, graphic design, product development, some law. content, sourcing and procurement, shipping, website development, machinery, production and more. I spent much of my time studying essential oils, bottling them and selling them. As our company evolved I continued to be in charge of production and was the head “mechanic” with no previous experience, but i ended up being able to fix anything and train people to run anything. When I started Nutri Supplements, i shifted into focusing almost all of my time in to R&D, Sales and Marketing. Now I’m in charge of the Sales & Marketing team, the content, R&D, and I work directly with procurement, testing, production and maintenance on a daily basis. Since the two people that we just lost were our head of content and our maintenance mechanic, i get to go back and help fulfill those roles while we look for new ones.
I work directly with the buyers for large chains like The Vitamin Shoppe, Sprouts Farmers Market, Good Earth Natural Foods and more. I’m most proud of pitching to these stores and getting shelf distribution of over 6000 store locations in just 2 years. I really like to focus on the science behind the ingredients and make unique formulations that are backed by science to be the best on the market.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We love to have people share our products with people that really need them. We have thousands of amazing stories of people that have told us that their lives have been changed because of the formulas that we’ve created. Personally i love to work directly with people. I’ll sit at the desk of the graphic design and content and work through new label design, artwork, forecasting and more. People can share their stories of using our products on social media and with their friends and family
