Conversations with Megan Tyrrell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Tyrrell.

Hi Megan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was living in Laguna Beach, CA started working at my local indoor cycling studio… After some years in the industry, I had fully embraced my passion for riding the beat of the music in a dark room to the loudest music we can tolerate. It felt like freedom, 45 minutes. When my local studio closed its doors, I felt I had the tools (sans the money) to create an even better cycling space that encompassed all the things you would expect at an upscale boutique studio but the friendliness and sense of community that supports one another. I felt Southern California was saturated with amazing studios in every direction. I am originally from Utan and knew this fitness addiction would be well received.

Keep in mind… I was a stay-at-home mom and needed to raise the money needed to build my new dream studio. I started googling and found a platform called NextSeed. I applied and was accepted. This was big. This platform allowed me to raise money without giving away a percentage of my company. I needed to find everyone I knew to invest money though this site and I had 3 months to raise $100k or I didn’t get any of it. Long story short, I made it to $118,000 by the skin of my teeth. This milestone gave me push to move to SLC immediately, and we did.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not by any stretch of the imagination… We were open for 6 months with we had to close our doors for Covid19. We were closed for two full months. Besides that, devastation we had to earn all those customers back at an unfairly low capacity. This is simply one struggle of many… We have always been hustlers and we will continue to hustle!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love my work because it has a truly positive impact on employees, instructors, and our community alike. I love the natural serotonin boost high-intensity cardio gives… typically making their visit to Mcycle the best part of their day.

I am most proud of the format I created that keeps our classes consistent. The Mcycle format is the guidelines each instructor must abide by as they create playlists and classes. It helps keeps each employee on brand with the freedom to create amazing and versatile classes without losing the quality of the workout.

Because of my extensive experience in the boutique fitness industry, I am able to execute the type of experience I want each employee, instructor, and client to get. Who we hire and how we approach fitness makes Mcycle ultra-cool but also inclusive and empowering. Truly positive and inclusive culture is hard to accomplish and we are making it happen one client at a time! #wherecardiomeetsculture

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love our city! Since living in CA, it’s been three years. I and really happy about the transition. Salt Lake has a young creative community that are paving the way for positive change and more artistic approaches to city art, architecture, and entertainment! what I like least about our city is the liquor laws.
