Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Morgan.
Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in a small town in rural Idaho, there wasn’t much to do. Let’s back up. There wasn’t much for normal teenagers to do. It’s a good thing I was never normal. I grew up surrounded by the paranormal. Death was just another part of life for me. My first paranormal experience happened when I was nine years old. I was at my grandparents’ home riding bikes around their farm, when I saw the spirit of a little boy. To this day, it is still vivid in my mind and I can remember it as if it happened yesterday.
My father passed away when I was two years old, leaving my mom with five children to raise on her own. Except, I don’t think we were ever alone. We often felt the presence of my dad and I could hear him walking the hallways at night, watching over us as we slept. I had an incredible experience at a young age, when my grandma visited me in the middle of the night to comfort me. I was suffering from an extremely bad ear infection and it was so painful I had a hard time sleeping. I remember her placing her warm palm on my ear and telling me everything was going to be okay. I woke up the next morning feeling much better. I thought it had all been a dream, until my mom received a phone call that morning with the news of her mother’s passing. Yes, the grandmother that had visited me in the night.
My uncle was the town mortician and my brothers worked at the local cemetery. I spent a good chunk of my childhood and teenage years and my uncle’s home. He taught me how to be respectful of the dead and to treat them just like you would if they were alive. I’d help my brothers at the cemetery during the busy seasons. Collecting old flowers and moving pipe. I saw too many strange things to count at both of these places. Like I said, death was just another part of life for me.
In search of answers to some of the paranormal phenomena I’d experienced, I started exploring weird and unknown places to see if I could capture more evidence of the spirit world. With the invention of Google Earth™, my brother Mike became a pro at finding these awesomely weird places to explore. I poured my passion for exploration and the paranormal into becoming a Parapsychologist, certified paranormal investigator, and EVP technician. My skill in communicating with spirits has helped to collect some incredible EPVs and video evidence. To this day, exploring and investigating creepy and abandoned places is still one of my favorite things to do. I’ve turned this passion into creating a podcast called Destination Mystery that I cohost with my brother Mike. We’ve also authored two books that include some of our favorite case files and I’ve authored three children’s books.
Paranormal evidence is not my only goal. My goal is to help others understand the paranormal experiences they are having. We find out the who, what, where, and why. My research in Near Death Experiences (NDEs) has helped me lend a listening ear to those who need to work through their NDE questions. It is so helpful for them to have an understanding ear and to know they are not alone. The same goes with my Parapsychology experience. I’ve been able to help many individuals develop and control their abilities, so their abilities don’t end up controlling them. I firmly believe we all have spiritual gifts and the more we learn and practice using our gifts, the more we can help humanity as a whole.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely been a bumpy road at times, but the bumps in the road have helped me learn and grow the most. As a paranormal weirdo, I’m always faced with ridicule. Sometimes, however, these critics end up becoming my biggest supporters. I always tell people I’m not here to prove anything to anybody. I’m just here to help when needed. I provide my skills and knowledge and they can take it or leave it. They usually take it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I only see this industry growing. Look at how television has changed in the last ten years. People are realizing that there are just some things we can’t explain, no matter how hard we try to. I have some exciting things I’m currently working on that I think will cause a big shift in my career. I just can’t talk about it yet. Hopefully soon. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
