Conversations with Morgan & Joel Borcik

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan & Joel Borcik.

Hi Morgan & Joel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Joel and I met working as photographers at a local Utah family photo studio. It was love at first sight (well. at least for me!) IT took about a year of us working alongside each other to actually go on a date and since then, our love grew and grew! We were still both working as photographers for years afterward. We owned our own separate businesses and loved every second of it. After a while, we realized we had both been attending each other sessions and shooting together so much that it made sense to combine our businesses. Joel picked up video, and we have been working as a photo + video duo ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While we absolutely love our work, it definitely has not been all flowers and sunshine. Our first year of official business together was 2019. It was amazing! We met so many incredible couples and really developed our wedding and elopement knowledge. Then 2020 hit. We had decided prior to the pandemic that we wanted to be more destination based and had begun to book our out-of-state and country weddings. Then we all know what happened next! We thought we would be ruined with Covid, but it turns out people wanted to elope more and more because of it. In the end, it really pushed us to have the majority of our work be in elopements and intimate weddings. (Don’t get us wrong, we still LOVE a good, big wedding and shoot up to 15 a year mixed with our elopements.)

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in elopements, couples, and weddings! We absolutely love every second of it. Telling a love story is something we feel very drawn to. Working alongside the love of our life while seeing other people share a moment with theirs is something we can never take for granted. Most of our following is drawn to our wide landscape shots as well as our after-dark photos. Working with minimal light once the sun goes down was SO intimidating at first, but really became something we fell in love with. It forces us to be more creative and intentional with a lot more story going on behind the scenes,

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We LOVE American Fork with a passion. It is the perfect mix of everything we need. We are so close to the canyons, have a plethora of small businesses to shop from, and the people are so inviting and welcoming to everyone. We aren’t loving the boom of townhomes. (Even though we live in one of those townhomes… whoops!). The houses here have so much character and charm while the townhomes are just mass-produced and not as beautiful!
