Conversations with Nate Webb

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Nate Webb.

Nate Webb

Hi Nate, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got bullied a lot as a kid. In fact, social media and bullies almost ended my life. Thankfully, with the help of my supportive family, I was able to come out the other side. It gave me a passion for helping kids and learning more about teen mental health.

I started an Instagram called Bullies Be Gone to give tips and advice to those facing bullies in their lives. I learned more as the years went on, and my expertise grew. I earned a master’s degree in school counseling and became a high school counselor. My account content evolved from just bullying advice to teen mental health, digital safety, parent relationships with their teens, and more. I began speaking in schools, sharing my story and expertise with parents and students.

Over the years, I partnered with a nonprofit called Save The Kids and became the face and spokesperson for the nonprofit. Eventually, I got to the point where I spoke so often that it became apparent that I needed to either stop speaking or stop being a school counselor. I chose to leave my 9-5 job and speak full-time.

Now, I spend my time traveling the country, speaking in schools, and running the Save The Kids Podcast. My mission is simple. To help parents raise resilient kids in a tech-heavy world.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have had my fair share of challenges. My biggest challenge has probably been learning when to ask for help. I am used to doing everything on my own. When I quit my 9-5 and ventured out on this new job, I learned that there are so many business aspects that I know nothing about. Having no formal training in business, all I knew was to cold call schools.

And being as stubborn as I am, I made that work for an entire school year. At the conclusion of that year, though, I took a hard look at myself and realized I just couldn’t do that again. As a father of a small family, I knew I needed to better protect my family and their future.

So, I swallowed my pride and found good people who were good at the aspects of the business I was not good at. I found an assistant to do outbound calls and marketing. I partnered with a non-profit that handled travel fees, so I didn’t have any overhead. Learning to ask for help was hard. But I am so glad I did.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a speaker for Save The Kids, a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness of the dangers of social media and smartphones for kids. I speak to schools, churches, youth groups, parents, businesses, and more on how to raise resilient kids in a tech-heavy world.

I also run the Save The Kids Podcast and bring on guests every week to talk about the current issues we are seeing with the rising generation and how we can best help them.

As a former high school counselor, I set myself apart from other speakers in this realm because I was in the trenches with the kids. With my studies as a counselor and my real-life experiences, I am able to engage all audiences to make a lasting impact.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Give more than you take. You will find the right people as you serve and give.
