Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Cook.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always loved photography, but my original career goal was to be a Veterinarian. I graduated with a bachelor in Biology and I continued working as a veterinary technician for 7 years. With my husband in a traveling job and in the military, life just got complicated with our oldest daughter constantly being juggled between daycare and babysitters. I needed something more flexible for our family and my own sanity. I decided to pursue my love for photography so I could have more time with my family. I worked with a photography studio for 6 months and decided I loved it enough to quit my other veterinary job and pressed full force into photography. Since then I have left the studio and started my own business and I fall more in love with my choice all the time! I have now been doing photography since January 2016!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no. There are many things that I feel catered to my personality and strengths very well and there are things that are still a struggle daily. Getting along with all kinds of people and dealing with stressful situations has always been something I have done well with. I enjoy directing a crowd, making people laugh, and finding places to act as a leader (hello wedding photography!). The most difficult struggle has been trying to learn how to even run a business! I never had any business training, and trying to manage not just starting a business, but also growing one consistently, while raising 3 darling girls (often during times my husband is deployed for several months at a time) is really challenging. God bless everyone who has helped, and still helps me, on this crazy journey.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
While I photograph many different categories – families, maternity, seniors, food, branding, etc. I specialize in wedding and elopement photography. My style is adventurous, playful, and colorful. What I tend to be known for is my interactions with my clients and being able to make things very light-hearted, enjoyable experiences where we often times actually become friends. This results in photographs that not only are beautiful to look at, but have very emotional, positive memories and feelings associated with them. I’m the biggest hype girl! If you want an energetic and fun photo experience, a Coley Cook photoshoot is the way to go.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I love to adventure for a photoshoot. I love to hike, be in the mountains, and go to new places. Mountain air just smells divine and makes for the most amazing experiences, and I will be there to document the moments!
