Hi Nubia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It’s funny how life unfolds…
I began my entertainment and creative journey in Atlanta, Georgia, performing at open mics and sitting on a book manuscript I wasn’t quite sure what to do with. What I did know was that I wanted to become more of myself, to pursue a life rooted in creativity rather than convention.
Growing up with a Southern Christian parent, my mother always encouraged me to dream big. She’d tell me I could become anything I wanted: a teacher, a doctor, a lawyer…you know, the careers everyone admired. It all sounded wonderful, but my heart was always drawn to music, writing, and the arts. Creativity became both my refuge and my voice.
A family cruise sparked something even bigger. For the first time, I realized a career in the arts wasn’t just a dream – it was actually possible. I was so captivated by the performers, the productions, and the atmosphere that I remember crying on the way home because, for the first time, I felt like I was leaving behind a life that somehow already felt like mine. From that moment on, I immersed myself in researching the entertainment industry and imagining a future where storytelling could become my profession.
By my junior year of high school, I had my sights set on attending The Art Institute of Atlanta. Life, however, had other plans. Instead of following a traditional path, I found myself gaining hands-on experience as an independent artist and creative entrepreneur long before earning my degree. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Those experiences became some of my greatest teachers.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside incredible musicians, creatives, Grammy-nominated artists, and Grammy Award winners whom I deeply admire and respect. I even organized my own mini tour, something I’m incredibly proud of. My music has been featured on terrestrial and online radio stations around the world, and along the way I’ve built something even more valuable than a résumé – a beautiful community of people I genuinely love and trust, who know they can always count on me just as I know I can count on them. It’s been a colorful, unpredictable, and deeply rewarding journey.
Today, I’m an alumni of The Los Angeles Film School with a Bachelor of Science in Entertainment Business and will begin pursuing my master’s degree in Creative Writing at Tiffin University this fall. Along the way, I’ve published five books and become an Amazon Bestselling author, built a career as a performing music artist, appeared in independent films and stage productions, served as Creative Director for a nonprofit, worked with AmeriCorps, and founded GNectar Publishing, where my daughter now serves as our Lead Graphic Designer. Together, we’ve had the privilege of working with both national and international brands.
No matter the medium-music, books, film, or publishing-I’ve always believed that stories have the power to help people feel seen, heal, question, and imagine new possibilities. That’s what continues to drive me.
When I look back at where I started, I’m grateful for every unexpected turn. I’m still dreaming, still creating, and still discovering new possibilities. I’m not chasing someone else’s version of the American Dream-I’m building MY own, one story, one song, and one chapter at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Can I curse in this?
Absolutely the fuck not.
If I’m being honest, my journey has been anything but smooth.
I’ve experienced homelessness, lived in hotels, slept on friends’ couches, borrowed money when I needed help, and lost money I’d worked hard to earn. I’ve lost nearly everything I owned-not once, but twice. I’ve experienced deep betrayal from someone I loved and trusted, been sabotaged, lied about, stolen from, and scammed. I’ve also endured the heartbreak of losing friends, loved ones, and family members far sooner than I ever imagined.
At one point, it felt like every time I took two steps forward, life found a way to push me three steps back. There were moments when I questioned everything-and whether I should keep going at all.
But every setback taught me something. They taught me resilience, discernment, humility, and the importance of trusting my intuition and not being afraid to speak up for myself and for what I needed. They taught me that success isn’t just about talent; it’s about endurance. Sometimes the greatest accomplishment isn’t reaching the next milestone-it’s simply refusing to quit while still being productive.
Ironically, many of those painful experiences became the fuel behind my music, my books, and the way I serve others through publishing. They’ve made me more compassionate, more intentional, and more appreciative of every opportunity that comes my way.
So yes…just about everything that could happen has happened. Laughs. But somehow, I’m still here, still creating, still believing, still crafting, still dreaming, still manifesting, still BEING, and still excited about what’s ahead.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve never been someone who could fit inside just one box, and honestly, I don’t think I was ever meant to. At my core, I’m a storyteller. Whether I’m writing a novel, performing on stage, consulting with an author, or helping an entrepreneur bring their vision to life, everything I do is rooted in creativity and connection.
As a performing rock soul artist, Amazon Bestselling Author, founder of GNectar Publishing, and creative entrepreneur, I’ve built a career around telling stories that connect people. Through GNectar Publishing, I help authors, nonprofits, and creatives transform ideas into professionally published books, brands, and meaningful projects through publishing, creative consulting, editing, branding, and marketing. As an author writing under the pen name Elle Christina, I specialize in drama, twisted romance, psychological thrillers, and LGBTQ+-infused stories that explore love, identity, resilience, betrayal, and the complexities of the human experience. As a music artist, I blend soul, funk, rock, and jazz to create performances that encourage people to feel, reflect, connect and be unapologetically raw and authentic.
Being a creative has never been just one thing for me, it’s a way of life.
Creativity isn’t limited to art; it’s also about solving problems, telling meaningful stories, and finding innovative ways to connect with people. As an artist, I lead with intuition and authenticity because I believe the most impactful work comes from telling the truth.
Music allows me to express what words sometimes cannot, while writing gives me the space to dive deeper into the emotions and experiences that shape us.
As a business professional, I’ve learned that passion alone isn’t enough. Creativity flourishes when it’s supported by structure, strategy, and consistency. Earning my degree in Entertainment Business helped me understand that my art wasn’t just a passion-it was intellectual property, a brand, and a business. That mindset led me to create GNectar Publishing, where I now have the privilege of helping other creatives turn their ideas into sustainable creative ventures. Today, my daughter serves as our Lead Graphic Designer, making it even more meaningful as we build something together that supports other storytellers.
What I’m most proud of isn’t any one accomplishment-it’s the life, the ecosystem I’m building through perseverance. I’ve performed across the country, published multiple books, collaborated with Grammy-nominated and Grammy Award-winning creatives, appeared in independent films and stage productions, served as the Creative Director of a nonprofit, worked with AmeriCorps, and had the opportunity to work with national and international brands. Every one of those experiences has reinforced my belief that success isn’t just about personal achievement-it’s about creating opportunities, building community, and leaving a positive impact wherever you go.
I think what truly sets me apart is that I don’t separate creativity from service. Creativity IS the service. Life as we know it, does not exist without creativity, so please respect the artist/creative and what we require to do just that.
Whether I’m writing a book, performing on stage, or consulting with a entrepreneur, my goal is always the same: to help people feel seen, empowered, and inspired to embrace their own stories. I’ve learned that creativity isn’t just about making art-it’s about creating possibilities, opening doors, and reminding people that their voice matters as it is without code switching.
My creative practice is rooted in soul, curiosity and discipline. Some days I’m writing, recording music, or developing new ideas. Other days I’m meeting with clients, refining marketing strategies, or learning something new. I don’t believe inspiration simply appears; I believe you have to experience life to be inspired, then create space for it by showing up consistently, even on the days when creativity feels quiet.
At the end of the day, If my music, my books, or my work through GNectar Publishing inspires someone to dream a little bigger, tell their story a little louder, or believe in themselves a little more, then my work is done.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe we’re entering one of the most exciting creative eras in decades. Over the next five to ten years, I think nostalgia will continue to influence nearly every industry-from music and publishing to fashion, branding, and entertainment. We’re already seeing Millennials and Gen Z rediscovering older sounds, aesthetics, and storytelling, but I think it’s much deeper than trends. I believe that the average successful music artist will shift to more millennials who are untampered with by the labels. People are craving authenticity, community, and experiences that feel meaningful in an increasingly digital world. We have to remember, the digital/internet age isn’t that old, it’s roughly 40 years old.
I also believe independent creatives will continue to reshape the entertainment industry. Artists, authors, and creators have more tools than ever to build their own audiences, own their intellectual property, and generate income without relying exclusively on traditional gatekeepers. There will still be gatekeeping because it does have its place, but it will look much different than what we have been accustomed to. That shift will only become more pronounced as creators prioritize ownership, creative freedom, and direct relationships with their audiences.
With that growth, I expect we’ll see stronger conversations-and hopefully clearer protections-around intellectual property, especially as AI and emerging technologies become more integrated into creative work. Protecting originality, properly compensating creators, and establishing ethical standards will become even more important than they are today.
I also think the traditional publishing industry will continue to evolve. The major publishing houses will always have an important place, but they’ll likely have to adapt to a world where independent authors and boutique publishers are proving they can build successful businesses, cultivate loyal readerships, and compete on a larger scale.
If I had to describe the next decade in one phrase, I’d call it ‘the Harlem Renaissance 4.0’-a period where diverse voices, independent creators, and cultural innovation are redefining what success looks like. I think we’re already witnessing the beginning of that movement, and I’m excited to be part of it.
