Conversations with Punkmetender

Today we’d like to introduce you to Punkmetender.

Hi Punkmetender, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Paris and I immigrated to Los Angeles in my early 20s. I had $5/day for food and I was sleeping in a garage, so nothing fancy. Then, I met Thierry Guetta and we started to work together on developing what became Mr. Brainwash. I was introduced to street art early on by him. We worked together for over fifteen years, making art, street art, traveling the world, and holding art shows.

It was, then, time for me to create my own venture and that’s when Punkmetender was born. The name came from two of my major influences – Daft Punk and Elvis Presley. At first, graffiti and street art were my main goal, creating illegally on billboards or walls in the cover of the night but soon, the focus evolved to fine art and mural installation.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every day is a challenge, they are as creative as success can be.

The road is never smooth, I believe but each bump is a lesson to learn. Falling and questioning yourself, not listening to good advice, etc. But all these bumps were very important stones to the wall. It creates a balance between success and staying grounded.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Butterflies became my source of inspiration because they represent freedom, spirit, and beauty. They have become a constant in all of my artworks. A few years ago, I created a new kind of mural installation, integrating three-dimensional butterfly shapes as if they were flying – representing connection on a spiritual and physical level.

They are designed to invite the viewer into the art and to be a part of it by taking pictures of it or with it, ultimately to be inspired to imagine their own reality. I am constantly evolving and studying art. My goals are stationed on the moon and I also started the Punk Angels. My NFTs are directly inspired by my artwork and style.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I was always in trouble. This is my favorite childhood memory, being in trouble as far as I can remember.
