Today we’d like to introduce you to Rikee Romrell
Hi Rikee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Idaho Falls and came to salt lake in 2013 to go to aesthetics school. I learned that I liked waxing when I got a job at Lunchbox Wax in park city. I worked up there for four and a half years and spent the last year managing the waxing salon. It was an incredible experience working there and i learned that I am really good at waxing. It connected me to the craft in such a deep and well rounded way. So I set my sights to starting my own business and opened The Witchery Wax in January of 2020. I had to shut down during covid but survived and am thriving with a wonderful clientele.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest struggles along the way was closing during covid. The unknown was definitely staring me in the face, having started my business just 3 months before the shutdowns happened. I took advantage of that time I was closed to look within and get to know myself better. i think it’s helped me through the last five years.
I also lost my mom to ovarian cancer 2 years ago. She was fighting it for 6 years before that so we were on that journey the entire time I had owned The WItchery Wax. That rocked my world in a way i never saw coming. My clients (who are also my friends) have been such a big support to me and I felt bolstered up by them in ways they probably don’t even realize. That was a tough time and still is. Grief is such a strange thing to navigate for anyone.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full body waxing expert. I specialize in speed waxing, including full face waxing, brazilians, full leg, arms, etc. and can do a brazilian in 10-15 minutes. I also specialize in eyebrow shaping, including waxing, tinting and eyebrow lamination. I just recently added lash lift and tints to my menu as well.
Im proud to say I have 11+ years of experience as an esthetician and waxing wizard! I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to hold space for the many deep and meaningful conversations you can have while waxing someone. Bonds are formed pretty deeply in that room because there is a vulnerability on both sides. Its a special thing to get to experience and it definitely boosts my life and feelings of community.
I feel really proud of the clientele I have built over the years. Many of my clients and i have seen each other through some of our hardest times in life, and we’re seeing each other once a month most of the time so you really get to witness peoples lives ebb and flow through time. It’s beautiful.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I LOVE how easy it is to get into nature here. I love all of the canyons surrounding the city. I think its such a precious gem of a place. The flora and fauna are so rich here and we have so much access to so much beauty. I love the stunning views of the wasatch and oqquirhs. I love taking my pup hiking and walking through the avenues. Especially during spring when the early flowers are popping out.
I think i’ll get in trouble if i say what i like least about this city, lol. I really do love salt lake and food scene here. There are some incredible places to eat like the pearl, bar nohm, wildwood bistro, so many incredible local coffee shops to visit.
I love that salt lake has such a vibrant small business community. I definitely love spending my money locally and it’s so easy to do in SLC.
