Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanna Kuhn.
Hi Shanna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Our story starts out with Virginia inheriting her grandmother’s rock collection and cabachon machine in 2018. We had all these rocks of Montana moss Agate, chrysacolla, etc., so we decided to take a silversmithing class. We took one class and then self taught ourselves the rest. We We through alot of silver, wasting more than actually using in the beginning (which we dont recommend) and in turned into what our business is now.
The name “The Traveling Stones” came from us, selling absolutely everything, buying an RV and traveling around the country, work camping along the way, while building our jewelry business along the way. We started in Northern California, amoung the beautiful redwood trees, all the way down to the Florida keys!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely had its highs and lows. More highs then lows though. We got into our first music festival in 2019 in Rohnert Park, California and sold our jewelry and did so well. Our booth in the beginning, is nothing like it is now!
We definitely hit our low in the Florida keys. People were not wanting to really buy down there and then 2020 hit, everything stopped.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Being a silversmith brings our creative side to life. Our biggest joy is not only making a one of a kind, unique jewelry piece, but to see a customer find that piece that is calling to them and seeing the smile on their face and knowing its something they cant keep for a lifetime and even pass it down through generations.
Each piece is never the same as the next. Nothing is mass produced. Each stone is different than the next. When people buy a piece of Traveling Stones jewelry, it may come with a story of where we found that stone, how we created it and we always send the customer with a card that tells a little bit of the healing properties that come with that stone. The energy it gives!
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to us, is being unique and not just another piece of jewelry. We want our customers to have something that they cant go find in any random store. We want that unique piece to be something that they always hang on to come back again and again.
