Daily Inspiration: Meet Amanda Alvares

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Alvares.

Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From the first time I laid my hands on a Polaroid as a little girl, I became interested in photography. I wasn’t able to really pursue photography until I got into adulthood, however. My primary focus was on landscapes, but after being challenged by a professor to photograph people – I fell in love. Even though I’ve been dabbling in the photo realm for decades, I didn’t dig deep and start my business until about 7 years ago after having my son. I needed an outlet that could provide some income so expanding on my photography seemed to fit the bill. My business was established in California, but we recently moved to Utah and I am excited at exploring new places and meeting new people!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Besides working on improving my skills behind the camera, I was a first time mom struggling to find a balance between raising my son and building my business. As a first time business owner learning licensing, taxes, paperwork, and the not-so-fun stuff involved there were plenty of bumps and hills in the road.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in creative portraiture; from couples, graduates, and fantasy style pieces – my work speaks for itself. My goal is to capture timeless memories for my clients’ to display proudly as artwork in their homes.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My family has always supported me in pursuing my career behind the camera, but my clients keep me going. It’s so amazing seeing the images that you captured plastered all over a client’s social media or the walls of their home. I love being able to document their stories as each year passes. When they come back, I know that I did well and have a reason to keep pushing harder to get even better year by year.
