Daily Inspiration: Meet Becky Dalton

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Becky Dalton.

Becky Dalton

Hi Becky, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Well obviously my name is Becky. I’m 31. I’m originally from Uganda but currently live in Utah with my family. I’ve been Married to the love of my life Josh for gosh it’ll be 8 years in June. We have the sweetest cutest 7 year old son Jayden. I love fashion, food, reading books and watching tv. I’m also very passionate and vocal about mental health issues and I love making friends. I am a Christian and I love the Lord!

In 2015, after getting home from serving a full-time mission in Sierra Leone and Uganda, I started having anxiety attacks. I’m talking about almost every five minutes. I could barely function. At the time, I didn’t know it, but apparently, they were triggered during my time in Sierra Leone when I witnessed the Ebola Outbreak (2014).

I got to see a psychiatrist and was diagnosed and put on meds and therapies. It took a while to get the perfect treatment, but it eventually helped, and I did get better. After I moved to the US, I thought I was doing great, but I struggled with being away from my family in Uganda and getting used to everything. Cultural shock didn’t help, haha. Anyway, my anxiety showed itself again, and this time, it was accompanied by depression. I obviously have my doctors, Treatments, and therapy, which have helped me get better and continue to progress.

It’s a daily struggle. In 2020, I decided to create a blog… initially, it was something to help keep me busy, but then it became my outlet for sharing my passion for mental health and fashion and just lifestyle in general. I thought, hey, I love fashion, and I love mental health and inspiring others, so why not put them all together and share the things I love? Here we are.

I think mental health is as important, if not more important, than physical health, and people don’t take that as seriously as they should. Plus, there’s a stigma around mental health. I want people to know that asking for help is okay, that they are not alone, and that just because you struggle doesn’t mean you’re weak.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but hey, there are ups and downs with everything, right?! Obviously, my blog is still not as well known and doesn’t get as much traffic as I’d like it to, but it will. Some days, I struggle with my mental health and can barely get out of bed or get anything done, and that has created inconsistency.

Other bloggers are able to be consistent, but not me, and that’s okay because when I have to take the day or time off, I’m going to because I need it! My mental health needs it, and I can’t pour from an empty well. I also struggle with writer’s block, but what writer doesn’t?! Haha. You know, this journey hasn’t been smooth, but it’s worth it, which is why I keep going.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So obviously, I’ve talked a lot about my mental health, so I wanna talk more about my love for fashion. I absolutely love to dress up and have always had a vision of becoming a stylist or just sharing the outfits that I love, whether they are trendy, basics, or just gorgeous pieces. The difference between me and other fashion enthusiasts is I am frugal and love a good deal.

I love to save a coin, and hey, if I can get a good-looking outfit for cheap, then I’m gonna do it. So I basically share affordable fashion; something almost everyone can afford. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look good, plus some of the more expensive things aren’t that cute, haha.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’m just really trying to get my blog out there to reach more people, so whether you want to read more about mental health, fashion, or lifestyle in general, I got you!

Also, if you would just like to be supportive and subscribe, I’d greatly appreciate that. My blog is https://beckydalton.com/. Also, please follow me on socials.
