Derek, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my journey as a self-taught DJ in 2016, driven by a deep-seated passion for music, particularly Hip-Hop and R&B. This love for music eventually led my wife and me to establish Platinum Charm Events in September 2023, where I serve as the DJ while she excels in event planning and coordination.
Over the years, I’ve honed my skills and shared my mixes through three released mixtapes, all accessible on our website, platinumcharmevents.com. Additionally, I’ve embraced the digital landscape, engaging with audiences daily through live DJ sessions on TikTok (@PistoTheDJ). Our efforts culminated when, in February 2024, we reached a significant milestone of 1 million likes on our TikTok live streams in one month!
One standout event from last month was “Usher Night,” a three-hour celebration dedicated solely to Usher’s music, which garnered an impressive 200,000 likes, further solidifying our connection with our audience.
Looking ahead, we’re thrilled about the diverse range of events we have lined up for this year, spanning weddings, graduation parties, and more. Our primary focus remains on infusing each occasion with vibrant, positive energy while delivering exceptional results tailored to our client’s desires. We’re committed to elevating every event experience and leaving a lasting impression on all those we enjoy entertaining.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets me apart as a DJ is deeply rooted in my unwavering passion for music. I vividly recall moments from as early as five years old, where tracks like “Mo Money Mo Problems” by The Notorious B.I.G. and “Return of the Mack” by Mark Morrison captured my soul. Those childhood nights spent tuned in to U92 were the beginning of a lifelong love affair with sound.
But it’s not just my connection to music that distinguishes me; it’s also my infectious personality and boundless energy. I thrive on entertaining others and spreading positive vibes wherever I go. I firmly believe in the unifying power of music—it has this incredible ability to bring people together, transcending boundaries and differences. Crafting a unique atmosphere and sharing that experience with the world is where I find my true calling.
When it comes to skills, I humbly believe that I stand out among the DJs in the Utah area. My technical prowess and creativity behind the turntables set me apart, and I relish every opportunity to showcase my talent. Whether it’s igniting a dance floor or curating the perfect playlist for an event, I pour my heart and soul into every performance, aiming to leave a lasting impression on everyone within ear reach.

What are your plans for the future?
We have ambitious plans for the future of our business. Firstly, we’re dedicated to maintaining the high standard of excellence that defines our events, ensuring that each one leaves a lasting impression on our audience.
In addition to our event-centric focus, we’re also prioritizing the expansion of our online presence. The digital landscape offers vast opportunities for engagement, and we’re eager to leverage it to connect with our audience on a deeper level.
Networking is another key aspect of our strategy. We recognize the importance of building strong relationships within the local community, and we’re actively seeking collaborations with promoters and venues to broaden our reach and bring our events to new audiences.
Looking ahead, we have aspirations to host our signature events. This would allow us to curate unique experiences from start to finish, further solidifying our presence in the industry.
Our vision is to continue delivering exceptional events, expand our online footprint, strengthen our local network, and ultimately establish ourselves as leaders in the event space. We’re excited about the journey ahead and the opportunities it presents for growth and innovation.
