Daily Inspiration: Meet Estefani Juarez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Estefani Juarez

Hi Estefani, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a young age, I have always loved expressing myself creatively. I’ve always enjoyed making things with my hands whether it was making jewelry, drawing, or scrapbooking but it wasn’t until I got older when I started becoming interested in making treats and desserts. I remember I would hang out in the kitchen with my mom and see her bake cakes and decorate them from scratch and I thought the process was beautiful. I slowly began to get involved in the kitchen as well – mainly to prepare ingredients or prepare frosting for her to start decorating the cake. The most fascinating part for me was decorating. I loved seeing the process of creating something colorful, whimsical, and fun but I also loved seeing the process of making something simple, clean, and elegant.

About 3 years ago, I starting making my own chocolate dipped treats and realized that this was something that I really enjoyed doing on my spare time. Slowly, I began making them more and more for friends and family and I began dreaming of having my own business where I would dedicate to make treats for events. About a year ago, I started researching nonstop on how to start a business. I would listen to podcasts daily of successful business owners and tips they have for aspiring business owners. I would listen to CPAs to learn about tax season and what that means for business owners. I would take notes and create to-do lists, setting myself up to start my own business.

I have always said that if there is something you REALLY want, don’t overthink it. Just set your mind on it and find out how to make it happen. There will be challenges, of course, but there will always be a solution or another way to get to where you want to be. I really wanted to start my own business and within about a year, I did just that. I am the founder of Crumbs & Sprinkles Co., a home-based dessert shop!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. I don’t have a degree in business nor did I have much of a background in business so it has definitely taken a lot of research to simply get my business started. I think that when you’re running a business, learning never stops. I have to learn from mistakes, learn what works best and what doesn’t, learn new trends, etc. Looking back, I think that starting my business was probably the least challenging. The real challenge now is maintaining my business and staying on top of all business responsibilities, not just making treats. Today, social media is huge for businesses as well. It can be difficult at times to stay up-to-date on trends and content creation.

Luckily, there are resources available for small business owners and I’m fortunate that Utah has a few that I can refer to. I have an amazing partner that has been my number 1 supporter throughout this journey and I’m so grateful for him too.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very shy and timid. I was ambitious though and I always strived to be top of my class. Interest wise, I enjoyed reading and writing. I loved learning and found interest in many things. As I got older and began my university career, that is when I started getting out of my comfort shell and began to dive deeper into my interests. I explored many different areas education wise and the one I liked most was psychology. Till this day, I still continue learning about psychology. The creative side of me has always stood out the most and I’m glad I’m doing something that I am passionate about.
