Daily Inspiration: Meet Fabiola Holcomb

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabiola Holcomb

Fabiola, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My husband and I, moved to Salt Lake City in 2009 and bought our little Tudor cottage one year after. It is a small cottage built in 1938 in Tudor style but the interior was stuck in 70″s carpet and linoleum. We saw the potential and started remodeling it the way we liked it back in time.
In 2022, we felt the need to expand our little house to fit our now family of 4 but in a way to stay loyal to the house’s architectural style.
A local contractor was hired and the process of designing a Tudor revival began. Unfortunately, in the process, I realized that the designers and architects didn’t have enough knowledge about the old craftsmanship of the era and just wanted to turn my older house into a modern white and gray home, therefore, I started an Instagram account an inspirational decor and design idea for me and to share with the contractor while recording our remodeling steps and hence called it “Littletudordiary”
After a year of working with designers and contractors, the contractor turned out to be a con man, and the remodel didn’t happen. but in the meantime, my Instagram account was growing and I was getting noticed by some architects and designers who loved timeless decor and old Tudor houses. I realized that they liked this page because it was inspiring them, providing educational awareness about these historical buildings, and the suitable decor for these styles, and also advocating to save the neglected houses not only around the USA but also in England, Canada, the UK, and even Australia.
Since then, I’ve grown the account to 68K followers and soon planning to add unique travel stays and specialized services whose craft is not to be found easily.
I am still hoping to start my cottage remodeling and love the possibility of documenting it and collaborating with knowledgeable professionals.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In general, it’s tough to survive and improve on a competitive social media platform like Instagram.
Many times I wanted to give up on it, but then I received a warm-hearted message from a follower telling me how much they enjoyed and were inspired by my content and this got me going.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been a full-time senior lab technologist for the past 15 years in a diagnostic lab. But learning more about old houses and advocating to save old houses is my sort of passion now and I am hoping more and more people especially young builders learn the old skills and respect the old houses.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I am, generally better at networking online than in person. I am not very knowledgeable in social media or networking but, had some success finding my way there. I have bought a couple of courses to teach myself about the techniques and how-to’s of this new platform. If you have a passion that you think someone could benefit from it share it! people will appreciate it.
