Daily Inspiration: Meet Flip Twogood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Flip Twogood. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Flip Twogood started playing guitar around the age of 13 after having received the video game Guitar Hero 3 for Christmas. He became obsessed with the music and the idea of playing those songs on the real deal. After begging his uncle to borrow his nylon string acoustic that always sat in a case, he learned a few chords and his first song was Nirvana’s “Come As You Are.” From there he learned guitar tabs, chords and taught himself guitar.

By the age of 14, he started his first band called Mark Our Words with some friends. From then on music became a part of him. Fast forward to 2017 and Flip began to take playing and music more seriously including an album and a west coast tour with his band. After funding a portion of the tour, he returned at the end with only $43.00 between checking and savings with no job and a wife to provide for (who has been more than supportive in all his endeavors). After the tour, the band started to grow apart and Flip regrouped the drummer and bass player to form Acacia Ridge who began to write their first song “Alabaster Eyes.” During the writing of that song, he added Christian on vocals and Alex on rhythm guitar.

After almost a year of writing, Flip took it upon himself to learn how to record and produce. By working extra hours on the weekends and teaching lots of guitar lessons after his regular job he was able to afford the necessary gear to record. By spending endless hours on YouTube, forums, and online courses he felt confident enough that he could track a full-length album. Acacia Ridge’s “Watch Your Monarchs Fall” was his first-ever stab at successfully tracking a full band.

Since then, he has gone on to working with hundreds of artists who have accumulated what is now millions of streams and views. His whole goal is to enable bands to get the sound that has always been in their heads. A sound that is professional, loud, and aggressive. A sound that it will give every artist the chance to truly be heard loud and clear, and most importantly- Proud.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all actually haha. I found myself with a desire to record my own music but this was very expensive to do right. My wife agreed to let me get a second job on top of my full-time title job to pay for all the gear that would be required to begin recording professionally. I was working 80 hours a week for about 2 years in order to fund the studio. After about 2 years I started recording bands as my second job and continued working 80 hours a week for another year! Then the studio finally gained enough popularity and demand that I was able to move over to recording full time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a full-time record producer and audio engineer. I record bands and artists specifically in the indie, rock, and metal genres. Pretty much anything that uses instruments like guitar, bass, keys, and drums! I also mix and master bands who have recorded on their own whether it be at their homes or in another professional studio space. The difference between the tracks they send before and after is mind-boggling and can leave some in tears at the difference.

I am most proud of the artists I get to work with on a daily basis. The music scene in Utah is incredible. I really think it’s on the verge of spitting out some mega big names. The bands and musicians work so hard and put so much time and thought into their music and it really shows.

What sets me apart is that I will not get you in and get you out as quickly as possible. My ultimate goal is to get your music heard by the masses. This includes songwriting, restructure, added ideas, and the most quality recording possible including editing and whatever it takes to get it pristine and unique. After the song is done, we will go over marketing plans and strategies to get onto Spotify playlists and other major streaming services home pages.

Any big plans?
I am actually upgrading my home studio to a state of the art 1,200 square foot facility underneath my home starting this fall! The studio will have 12-foot finished ceilings with a massive sounding live room, vocal booths, and very big control room. The whole studio has been professionally designed and engineered by a Paul Bishop in the U.K. We are very excited to have this new space coming mid-2022!

Pricing:

  • $40 an hour for recording
  • $250 per song for mixing and mastering
  • $50 per song for mastering
