Daily Inspiration: Meet George and Cris Prieto

Today we’d like to introduce you to George and Cris Prieto.

Hi George and Cris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
George and I have been married for 5 years now! A couple of years ago, we started to dream of traveling more. We had a trip to Hawaii planned in 2020 but it got canceled due to Covid. So we rerouted our trip to 3 national parks: Grand Teton, Yellowstone, and Zion. We absolutely fell in love with National parks and knew we had to find a way to see more. After years of saving our money and researching how we were going to travel, we decided on buying an RV to take an epic year-long road trip across North America. We found the RV we wanted on Facebook marketplace, sold pretty much all of our things, and quit our jobs. We have been on the road since July and have been having the time of our lives. We know this is a once in a lifetime experience and we are savoring every minute of it. We are so thankful!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Though this is a trip of a lifetime, of course, there have been moments of loneliness being away from friends and family, moments of feeling overwhelmed with all the decisions that have to be made every single day that comes with nomad living, moments of stress, moments of getting annoyed at each other…. Because even though we are away from home and away from our jobs, that doesn’t mean we are away from all our normal, everyday problems. But I will say that this trip has brought us closer together and has helped us confront and tackle issues faster than we normally would because there are less distractions for us out on the road. Any and all of our struggles have been minimal conspired to the incredible experiences we have had on this trip and we wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
George and I have both always been very creative and artistic. We have always loved photography, videography, and storytelling. Since quitting our jobs, we have really leaned into that side of our creativity. We love to create compelling and engaging stories on social media, and we are trying to break into the business of creating content for brands. We are proud of the work we have created since being on this trip. Telling stories of the places we’ve been, the people we’ve met, and all the incredible experiences we’ve had. I would say what sets us apart is that besides caring about what the photo/video looks like, we care most about how it makes the audience feel.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
It’s so hard to narrow down just one moment. All the memories that are coming to mind have one thing in common: my family. I just have the best memories of growing up with my two older brothers, little sister, and mom and dad. I have memories of us laughing, playing, traveling, Friday night movie nights at home, beach days, truly enjoying life and each other. I really feel like I had the best childhood because of the love of my family. It didn’t matter what we were doing, as long as we were together, we were having the best time. Growing up in Florida, we went to the beach, we were playing outside, we were always going swimming, having bonfires, running through the sprinklers, playing with the neighborhood kids, etc. We grew up in a time when there was no social media, where we didn’t compare ourselves to others the way we do now, where times were simpler and we would play outside until it got dark out. I feel really blessed to have grown up in that time. So it’s hard for me to narrow down one memory, because I really loved the entirety of my childhood.
