Daily Inspiration: Meet Grant Lalaian (LaLion)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grant Lalaian (LaLion).

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was introduced to music at an early age. I started guitar lessons around 6 years old after my parents gifted me a guitar for Christmas. The lessons began with my father teaching me what he knew, then he took me to group guitar lessons at a local community college filled with adults. From the ages of 14-17 I was in several bands that didn’t pan out. After the last band broke up, I decided I was just going to make music as a solo artist, so I purchased a $20 microphone off of amazon and started learning how to make beats and record myself in FL Studio. Within the first two years of my career, I released a song titled “Be Jay Z” which amassed over 1.5 million streams and booked me a spot on Skyzoos “In Celebration of Us” tour across Washington. Since then I have released a song a week for over 4 years and amassed over 35,000,000 streams on Spotify alone.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. My entire life, with every music project, I expected to blow up. Writing the song, mixing, mastering, engineering, promoting, and releasing weekly songs has not been easy, but I find it’s the best way for me to have the most control over my creative vision. The constant battle of putting a song or a mixtape out and expecting it to be huge, then seeing it do normal numbers, is something I fight with every release. However, my numbers are growing every day and don’t see any creative decline in sight.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m most proud of where I’ve gotten in my musical career and handling every aspect of it. I write the song, mix it, master it, engineering it, create all the art for it, promote it, and release a song every week myself. I am known for the diversity in my music as well. I go from rap to pop to alternative/grunge in every other song.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Never give up, no matter how dark the road in front of me may look, I know there is a light at the end. I make my music for people that are struggling in life, and knowing that the songs I put out help them is enough motivation for me to never quit.

one of the best, yet overlooked singers. He needs some major contract. Where are those big guys?
