Daily Inspiration: Meet Huber Najera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Huber Najera.

Hi Huber, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started in 2018 when I was sitting in my barber’s chair and I asked him about hair loss solutions. The sides of my hair had started receding. He suggested Scalp Micropigmentation. I had no idea what that was. I looked at a few SMP Instagram accounts and thought it was a great idea.

As I did more research I learned that there were no SMP artists in Utah. So instead of going to an SMP artist to have the procedure done on me, I took the money for what the procedure would have cost and invested in training in Southern California. A week after I finished my training I did my first procedure on my friend in my basement.

I couldn’t believe the happiness that my work had put on the face of my friend. That was when I knew that I wanted to do SMP for the rest of my life. How could you go wrong changing lives daily? Since I started doing SMP I have stayed consistent and still learn things daily. I stay a student to become a master.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If I said that SMP was easy or that it’s been a smooth road I’d be lying. I could sit here and think about all the nightmares I had thinking about how my clients were healing, hoping I hadn’t done botched work.

But my work speaks for itself and in the end, all the worry and fear was just a testament to how much I care about my clients. Another struggle I have faced along the way is gaining a clientele and building trust with my clients to get them to allow me to work on them.

I did what I had to do to trust myself. In the SMP industry clients are literally putting their lives in your hands. A permanent tattoo on your head? That takes trust and it all comes down to caring about your clients and the quality of your work.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
When I am asked what I do for a living, the easiest answer is that I change lives. I’ve got some crazy looks when I respond that way but that’s how both I and my clients feel. I specialize in creating natural hairlines and creating undetectable SMP.

Most people would have no idea that my SMP is not hair unless my clients tell them. I am known for being the man who brought SMP to the state of Utah. To this day I am the Number One artist for SMP in the state. I am blessed to be the busiest and the most consistent.

I am most proud of the work that I do and how far I’ve come. I am a successful small business owner with three employees and I am a high school drop out. On top of all that, I am an SMP instructor. I take pride in the fact that I facilitate the careers of up-and-coming SMP artists. The thing that sets me apart from others in the industry is the level of care for my clients.

It all comes back to how much you care. Caring about the money before the client is a quick road to a short career. I put the client before the money and that is how I know that I will continue to be successful in the SMP industry.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
As hard as it is to believe, my business boomed during the Covid-19 crisis. Whether it was because more people had time to come in for the procedures because so many were working from home or because there was nothing else to spend money on at that time and people then decided it was worth the investment, I was blessed during Covid.

The lesson that I learned was that success and prosperity can come from anywhere at any time and you have to stay up on your skills and be consistent and ready for when the opportunity presents itself. At the end of the day all people have the same amount of potential. If you follow your passion and care about what, you do you will be successful.

The thing that I learned during Covid was to make my living depending only on myself. I believe that Covid either broke or made certain businesses and individuals. If you have hustle and motivation it doesn’t matter what’s happening in the world, you’ll get through it. If you blame the world, you’re going to stay exactly where you are.
