Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Richardson.
Hi Hunter, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’m Hunter Richardson, a talent acquisition professional who never thought he’d be in HR (despite my initials being HR)!
I grew up in Park City, UT went to college at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, UT, and have called Utah home for most of my adult life. After college, I thought I would be in advertising somewhere in NY but 2008/2009 had a different path for me – recruiting!
Since then I have had the opportunity to work for large Fortune 100 companies (such as Goldman Sachs, ADP, and L3Harris) small start-ups (such as Nav & Homie) & everything in between! This leads me to LVT where I am currently the Head of Talent!
LVT is the world’s leader in physical security platforms via solar & cellular video surveillance units! Never did I think I could build a career in recruitment but 15 years in, I wake up every morning more excited than the day before!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been anything but smooth! From layoffs and reorgs to the 2008 recession and recent pandemic – working in talent (with people) is quite rocky! Nevertheless, it’s rewarding!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As Head of Talent I manage the overall recruiting & talent acquisition strategy for the company. For those that don’t know, recruiting is ultimately the responsibility of attracting, engaging, assessing, and onboarding talent for an organization. So at any given time I am a Matchmaker – which is knowing how to network and navigate skill sets, personalities, stakeholders, employees, and cultures. This also means I am a Marketer – The devil’s in the details; from representing an organization to promoting an opportunity, I have to be well-equipped for any challenge. With that comes the need to be a Technologist – where I embrace technology and have the ability and knowledge to utilize almost any tool while also being a Salesperson – having the people skills and negotiation acumen to win for companies, employees & candidates. Lastly, I am a Talent Advisor – a trusted partner in the organization as an industry thought leader and sought after for talent strategy.
Recruiting is an amazing field that is industry agnostic and I am fortunate to have built a career around it!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Talent acquisition is forever changing with respect to diversity, requirements, education, etc… but will always have a human behind the technology seeing how there always needs to be a human aspect to any people operations!
As for the video surveillance industry, specifically in the corporate/commercial vertical – while LVT maintains niche leadership with mobile & cloud-based technology, more & more organizations will creep into the space from the consumer/residential vertical! But the industry will only continue to grow as new technology is developed with AI & ML!
