Today we’d like to introduce you to J.j. Mendez
Hi J.j., so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am multidisciplinary designer with over 10 years of experience I’ve worked with local and national brands such as Vivint, Sunrun, Podium, Mixhers to name a few. Im currently designing and art directing for nationwide medical training company. I have a passion for long lasting design. Design has the power to influence human behavior, as designers we have a responsibility to shape our society.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Design can be challenging depending on the industry to work for, for example during my times in the sales marketing world it can be demanding, fast paced environment, same day turn around, long hours, work over weekends, holidays and lots of all nighters, but rewarding too. I got to work on incredible campaigns, work with and meet incredible people. I was on a billboard on I-15 with Professional basketball player Rudy Gobert for Utah Jazz/Vivint Campaign.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently work as the Art Director for a nationwide medical training company. Over the last 10 years i’ve added more to my traditional graphic design skillset, I can photograph, UI/UX design and most recently web design. I am not afraid of learning new skills. My specialty is brand design, Im proud of the work I’ve done and the impact/results it has. What sets me apart is that Im dynamic and a unique vision that balances beautiful and functional design.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes, to diversify your portfolio and sources of income. The multibillion dollar you “trust” can cut you anytime. It was during this time that i added more skills to my skillset in order to be more competitive in the market.
