Daily Inspiration: Meet Jason Conforto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Conforto.

Jason Conforto

Hi Jason, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Early in 2023, my co-host Tyler Crump and I embarked on an exciting journey to blend artificial intelligence with the immersive world of Dungeons and Dragons, giving birth to our podcast, Adventure AI. Fueled by a shared passion for storytelling and a desire to push creative boundaries, we enlisted the help of ChatGPT to introduce an unprecedented element into our D&D adventures.

In our inaugural episode, we handed the reins to the AI, inviting it to name our podcast and christen itself. The result? Adventure AI and ‘The Language Lord’—with a cheeky first name, “Alex.” Now, each season unfolds in a unique fashion, spanning character creation, campaign planning, and gripping gameplay.

As we’re knee-deep in recording our sixth season—a festive holiday adventure at the North Pole—we reflect on the magic that transpires when our players, Tyler and I, join forces with Alex the Language Lord. The collaborative spirit of our podcast infuses every season with unpredictability and excitement.

Our short seasons, lasting 4-7 episodes, feature character creation sessions, campaign brainstorming with the DM, and thrilling gameplay with the AI as our guide. A distinct wrap-up episode offers us the chance to review the season, celebrating the AI’s contribution to our storytelling.

Adventure AI is more than a podcast; it’s a dynamic fusion of AI and human creativity, and we can’t wait to see where our next adventure takes us. Join us as we unravel mysteries, embark on epic quests, and explore the limitless possibilities of storytelling with Alex the Language Lord at our side.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At the outset of our podcasting journey, we set ambitious goals, aiming to release an episode every week. However, the reality of our demanding full-time jobs soon caught up with us, and the initial plan became unsustainable. The tipping point arrived during the summer months when family travel plans clashed with the podcast’s demands.

In an attempt to keep up, we made a misstep by allowing Alex the Language Lord to take the lead in Season 4 while we were away. The experiment taught us a crucial lesson about the irreplaceable value of human presence in our creative process. The episodes, albeit short, revealed that the robotic nature of the text-to-speech voice couldn’t carry an entire episode on its own, resulting in a less-than-ideal listener experience.

Determined never to repeat this mistake, we reevaluated our approach. Following Season 4, we decided to shift to a more manageable bi-weekly release schedule. This adjustment not only allowed us to maintain the podcast but also provided the necessary breathing room for Tyler and me to juggle our professional commitments.

The challenges we faced became catalysts for positive change. By embracing a less frequent but more sustainable release schedule, we’ve found a rhythm that aligns with our creative vision and accommodates our busy lives. Each setback has propelled us forward, shaping Adventure AI into a resilient and continuously evolving storytelling venture.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

My cinematic journey began in the early ’90s in San Diego, CA, fueled by a teenage passion for filmmaking and storytelling that led to creating short films on VHS with my friends. Graduating from BYU’s Film program set the stage for my career in independent filmmaking.

For over two decades, I have served as a producer and director at Avalanche Studios in Salt Lake City, UT, leveraging my experience to weave compelling narratives through hundreds of videos and TV commercials. Among my directorial achievements are my short films “The Accordion Player” and “Cursed is the Ground.” Beyond these, I have directed documentaries like “Front Man,” “Mario’s Conviction,” and “The Disappearance of Brandon Mull.”

My producer credits include the film “Dog Valley” and the pilot episode of “The IP Section.” Outside my podcasts and film making I produced the board game Feast & Famine which was published by Shadow Mountain. I’m excited to share stories with audiences for years to come.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
