Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Seeley.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
As I was getting my degree in art education, I tried Artist Alley at Comic-Con thanks to the recommendation of a friend. I couldn’t believe the positivity surrounding my work. I was hooked from that day on and fell in love with the festival atmosphere and the ability to showcase my work to real people.
Every year has presented new opportunities and I am lucky to be able to make and sell my work full-time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. When we, my husband and I, we’re getting our business started, we spent a whole winter doing art shows in Florida, getting rained out and barely breaking out even after tremendous efforts. All of our success has come slow and steady. I’ve been rejected countless times throughout the years.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I paint colorful acrylic animals with infinite variety and textures.
I’m constantly pushing myself out of my comfort zone to try new things. my work. I often use a palette knife rather than a brush and many unconventional tools like sawdust, eye droppers, squeegees, q-tips, and more. I also work in watercolors and am most well known for my rainbow pet portraits.
I love to make my work accessible for all. I showcase in everyday places like Vertical Diner, Utility Boxes throughout SLC valley, Gardner Village, Urban Arts Gallery, Alpine Art, Lund’s Fine Art in Park City, Worthington Gallery in Springdale, and more.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m hoping to build a home in North Salt Lake where I’d have dedicated gallery space for people to visit and see my work in-person outside of festivals and galleries. I allow visits to my home now in Tooele currently, but would love to be in a more accessible location.
I will probably always continue my animal work, but recently I’ve been really excited about abstract work and have started taking on large abstract commissions.
