Daily Inspiration: Meet Jules Sorensen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jules Sorensen

Hi Jules, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
All my life I have always had an interest in photography. In college I took a few basic photography classes and had some photographer friends who were a huge influence on me at that time as well.

It wasn’t until after I got married that I really got into being a professional photographer. My husband knew I had an interest and so one year he bought me a beginner camera for my birthday. I was thrilled. At first, I began learning by experimenting. I both succeeded and failed in many areas. After a couple of years, I saved up enough money to invest in some education opportunities.

There are a couple of photographer mentors that have been very influential on my style and education. I would not be the kind of photographer I am today without them. I would also like to credit our God for my success as well. I would not have the opportunities I do without Him.

With all of that being said, I operate this business while being a stay at home mom with two littles and one on the way. It has been a huge learning curve to balance my priorities when it comes to home and business. I hope I can be an example to my children to chase after your dreams at any stage in life.

I have many goals and dreams I would like to achieve with Saddle Tree Photography. Even though it may look a little different as more kids come into the picture, I will continue to chase those dreams with my family by my side.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. There have been many learning curves that in the end have helped me become better. I struggle with a lot of self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy. But then I have to remind myself that people are not asking me to take pictures because they have pity on me or because I am close in proximity. They WANT me to take pictures for them because they like my style.

Having children is a huge blessing and comes with its challenges. My husband works full-time as our main provider. When I have photoshoots scheduled I rely on the support of extended family to babysit my kids while I am gone. If it weren’t for them, I would be able to be as involved with Saddle Tree Photography as I am at this stage of life.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional photographer from Elko County in North Eastern Nevada. I specialize in western lifestyle & family/portrait photography. I have experience with couples and weddings as well. I am known mostly for my family sessions and the western lifestyle i.e. rodeo/western events.

I am most proud of the value I provide for each of my clients. With each photography session I offer free bonuses that I personally order and give to my clients. I have had to modify over the years but as of recent, my current bonuses include a hardcover photobook of images from the session as well as a 16×20 canvas print, client’s choice from the session. These are not extra costs my clients pay for. Simply included for free.

I have offered my free bonuses since the very beginning. I know the struggle of many people that get their pictures professionally done. Once you get your digital files, what’s next? Framed pictures, canvas pictures, a collage wall? The possibilities are endless. With these bonuses my clients get a jumpstart on getting their professional pictures into their home with little to no hassle.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I did not grow up in the ranching/western industry even though I am now fully immersed in it. I rope and ride whenever I get the chance. Because of that love and interest, people are surprised to find out that I’ve only been doing so for a few short years. I grew up in a small town in Idaho that was mostly farm land. Although my family did not own a farm or livestock of any sorts.

I grew up doing ballroom dancing and competed in many national competitions in high school. I was also a year-round volleyball player all through high school. I went on to become a collegiate athlete in Oregon which is where I met my husband.
