Daily Inspiration: Meet Kami White

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kami White

Hi Kami, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2016, my husband gave me a camera for Christmas. I was excited to use it to take better pictures of our two boys. At first, I just used it to capture special moments during holidays and birthdays.

But as time went on, I started to take pictures of our family and friends too. People liked my photos and asked me to take more. I realized I really enjoyed photography and wanted to learn more.

In 2019, I decided to get serious about photography. I practiced and learned as much as I could. By 2020, I was able to turn my hobby into a full-time job.

I’m so grateful for that Christmas gift and my husband. It helped me discover a passion I never knew I had. Now, I get to do what I love every day and capture special moments for families like mine.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As I built my photography business, I faced a new challenge: balancing work and family life. It wasn’t easy to juggle photo shoots, editing, and mom duties. Some days, I felt like I was being pulled in too many directions.

Then, in 2020, our family grew with the arrival of our baby girl. I was overjoyed, but I knew it wouldn’t be easy to keep my business going. The COVID-19 pandemic added an extra layer of complexity, with lockdowns, social distancing, and uncertainty.

There were times when I felt overwhelmed and doubted my ability to keep going. But I was determined to make it work. I remember thinking, “If I can get through this, I can get through anything.” So, I powered through, finding creative ways to manage my time and prioritize my tasks.

Looking back, I realize that those challenging times made me stronger and more resilient. I learned to adapt, to be flexible, and to trust myself. And, as I navigated the ups and downs of entrepreneurship and motherhood, I discovered a deeper passion for my work and a greater appreciation for the beauty of everyday moments.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a photographer, I specialize in capturing intimate, emotional moments for couples, small families, births and so much more. Weddings, in particular, hold a special place in my heart – there’s something magical about preserving the joy, love, and commitment of that special day.

I also cherish the opportunity to photograph my own children and friends, as it allows me to blend my personal and professional passions. Collaborating with fellow photographers is another highlight of my job; I love learning from others, sharing knowledge, and pushing the boundaries of my craft.

One aspect of my work that I’m particularly proud of is the birth stories I’ve had the privilege to document. Witnessing the miracle of new life and capturing the emotions of those first moments is an incredible honor. I feel grateful to have been a part of so many beautiful beginnings.

What sets me apart from others, I believe, is my ability to be adaptable, spontaneous, and creative in any situation. I thrive in unpredictable environments and am always looking for ways to turn unexpected moments into something special. Whether it’s a sudden rainstorm during a wedding or an unexpected expression from a child, I’m always on the lookout for those authentic moments that make life so precious.

What does success mean to you?
For me, success is:

• Waking up every morning excited to do what I love – taking photos that capture life’s precious moments.
• Building meaningful relationships with my clients, many of whom have become close friends.
• Continuously improving my craft, staying inspired, and pushing myself creatively.
• Being able to balance my passion for photography with my role as a mom and wife, and finding joy in both.
• Leaving a lasting legacy of beautiful memories for my family, friends, and clients.
• Staying true to my artistic vision and values, while also being open to growth and evolution.

“Success is a Journey, Not a Destination”
Success isn’t just about achieving a specific goal or milestone; it’s about the journey itself. It’s about:

• Embracing challenges and learning from failures.
• Staying curious, inspired, and motivated.
• Cultivating a growth mindset and being open to new experiences.
• Nurturing meaningful relationships and connections along the way.

As I continue on my journey, I’m constantly redefining what success means to me. It’s a fluid and evolving concept that reflects my changing priorities, values, and aspirations.
